New Volkswagen Taigun Rolls Off Pune Line, Strengthening India’s Role as Global SUV Hub

Pune: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has officially kicked off production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its Pune facility, signaling not just a routine update—but a confident continuation of its “Make in India, for India and the world” strategy.

And yes, the Taigun is back in factory overalls, getting ready to impress Indian roads once again—this time with a sharper wardrobe and a slightly smarter brain.

The refreshed Taigun builds upon its already successful formula, now featuring striking new design elements aimed at giving it a bolder, more contemporary road presence. While Volkswagen hasn’t turned it into a spaceship (yet), the design tweaks ensure it stands out in India’s ever-crowded SUV parking lots—where blending in is almost a crime.

Inside, the updates are more than just cosmetic. Shaped by direct customer feedback, the new Taigun promises enhanced practicality and convenience with upgraded premium features. In other words, it’s not just listening to customers—it’s finally taking notes.

Underneath the refreshed skin, the Taigun continues to stay true to Volkswagen’s core DNA—offering European driving dynamics, refined comfort, and its hallmark 5-star safety credentials. Built specifically for India’s diverse and occasionally unpredictable road conditions, the SUV aims to balance performance with everyday usability.

Speaking on the milestone, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, emphasized the growing strength of India’s manufacturing ecosystem. He highlighted how the Pune facility continues to deliver global-quality vehicles with high localisation levels—allowing the company to cater efficiently to both domestic and export markets.

Echoing the sentiment, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director of Volkswagen India, noted that the Taigun has been central to the brand’s SUV strategy since its debut in 2021. With the updated model now rolling out of the Chakan plant, Volkswagen is aiming to further strengthen its position among premium compact SUV buyers in India.

The numbers tell a strong story. Since launch, over 143,000 units of the Taigun have been produced in India, with nearly 30 percent shipped to international markets. Not bad for a car that was once just another contender in the SUV race.

With production now underway, the new Taigun is gearing up to continue its journey—combining German engineering with Indian sensibilities. And if all goes well, it might just prove that sometimes, a mid-life refresh is all you need to stay relevant… even in India’s brutally competitive SUV segment.
