Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Jagriti’ Hits the Highway: Teaching Truckers Safety, Health… and Maybe a Little Yoga Too

In a country where highways never sleep and trucks are the silent workhorses of the economy, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided it’s time to give back to the people behind the wheel—quite literally. The automaker has rolled out ‘Jagriti’, a five-day road safety and health awareness initiative aimed at truck drivers who keep its logistics moving across India.

Running from March 23 to March 28, 2026, the initiative is being hosted at Maruti Suzuki’s facilities in Manesar, Haryana and Hansalpur, Gujarat. Nearly 4,000 truck drivers—those responsible for transporting finished vehicles and spare parts—are expected to participate in this program that blends serious safety lessons with a touch of wellness.

And yes, before you imagine a dull classroom setup, ‘Jagriti’ is anything but that.

At its core, the initiative focuses on reinforcing safe driving practices. Sessions cover everything from defensive driving techniques and the dangers of overspeeding to the importance of adequate sleep—because even the toughest trucker needs a proper nap. There’s also emphasis on avoiding driving under the influence, consistent seatbelt usage, and ensuring vehicles are well-maintained to prevent unexpected breakdowns.

Speaking about the initiative, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the critical role truck drivers play in road safety. He noted that their long hours behind the wheel of heavy vehicles directly impact not just logistics efficiency, but the safety of everyone sharing the road.

But ‘Jagriti’ isn’t just about lectures and checklists—it takes a more holistic route. The program also includes preventive health check-ups, eye tests, and medical consultations. And in a move that might surprise many, there are yoga and meditation sessions too. Because sometimes, the best way to handle a 20-tonne truck is with a calm mind and a flexible spine.

This initiative forms part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader sustainability and social responsibility efforts, aiming to improve both safety standards and the well-being of its extended workforce. In an industry where deadlines are tight and roads can be unforgiving, ‘Jagriti’ serves as a timely reminder that safer journeys begin with healthier, more aware drivers.

After all, while cars may grab the spotlight, it’s the trucks—and the people driving them—that keep India moving.
