Cars24 Introduces India’s First Lifetime Warranty for Used Cars, Promising Long-Term Ownership Peace of Mind

Gurugram: In a move aimed at redefining long-term ownership confidence in India’s used-car market, CARS24 has launched what it calls the country’s first Lifetime Warranty programme for cars. The initiative promises extended protection on critical mechanical components, signalling a shift from short-term warranty coverage toward longer ownership assurance.

Traditionally, most used-car warranties in India last only a limited period, often leaving buyers to face expensive repairs once coverage expires. Cars24’s new programme attempts to change that by offering protection for key powertrain parts — including the engine, transmission and drivetrain — for up to 12 years from the vehicle’s registration date or 1.5 lakh kilometres, whichever comes first.

These systems are widely considered the most crucial — and costliest — when failures occur, typically surfacing after years of ownership rather than in the honeymoon period when the car still smells new.

Designed for long-term users, the Lifetime Warranty extends coverage well beyond standard warranty timelines and focuses on mechanical failures that tend to appear with ageing vehicles. The programme is available exclusively on Cars24 Certified vehicles and includes cashless repairs at Cars24-approved workshops across India.

To simplify the experience, the company has integrated a fully digital claims process, along with vehicle pick-up and drop-off support. Owners must, however, follow prescribed servicing schedules at certified workshops to maintain warranty eligibility — a small reminder that even “lifetime” protection still expects the occasional trip to the service bay.

Speaking on the launch, Himansu Ratnoo, CEO India, Cars24, said the initiative reflects the company’s confidence in the quality of vehicles sold on its platform. He noted that the goal is to reduce long-term ownership uncertainty and take responsibility for the components that matter most in keeping a car running reliably.

Customers can opt for the Lifetime Warranty at the time of purchase, with the programme now live pan-India.

With this announcement, Cars24 positions itself as the first platform in India’s used-car ecosystem to introduce a structured long-duration mechanical protection plan, potentially setting a new benchmark in a market where buyers often worry more about future repair bills than the purchase price itself.

After all, buying a used car is easy — trusting it for the next decade is the real test. Cars24 clearly wants to make that part less dramatic.
