Pune: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has clocked an impressive manufacturing milestone by rolling out 50,000 units of the Škoda Kylaq within a year, firmly stamping its authority in India’s fiercely competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment — and proving that Made in India can also mean Made Right.
Manufactured at the Group’s Chakan plant near Pune, the Kylaq is SAVWIPL’s first-ever sub-4-metre SUV and has quickly become the poster child for its India strategy. The compact SUV has played a key role in driving the Group’s 36 percent year-on-year growth in 2025, which, in automotive terms, is not just growth — it’s a proper growth spurt.

The milestone event was attended by H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Cabinet Minister of Heavy Industries and Minister of Steel, who congratulated the company for its strong commitment to the Make in India initiative. He highlighted how global automakers localising deeply in India are strengthening the country’s manufacturing ecosystem and global competitiveness.
Piyush Arora, MD & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, summed it up best without revving too hard:
“The 50,000-unit milestone for the Kylaq reflects the deep trust and affection our customers have shown for this product. Built on the proven MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq’s success validates that vehicles designed in India, for India and the world, can earn admiration both domestically and globally.”
In simple terms: the car is Indian at heart, German in discipline, and global in ambition.
To keep up with Kylaq’s rising popularity, SAVWIPL has increased production capacity by 30 percent at the Chakan plant and further strengthened partnerships with Indian suppliers. Higher localisation levels mean better cost competitiveness, faster supply chains, and fewer sleepless nights for logistics teams — a triple win in today’s manufacturing world.
Beyond just numbers, the Kylaq’s journey also reflects 25 years of Škoda Auto Volkswagen’s presence in India, built on local talent, engineering capability, and an increasingly robust supplier ecosystem. What started as a manufacturing base has now evolved into a full-fledged product development and export hub.
With the Kylaq hitting 50,000 units in record time and the Group doubling down on scale and localisation, one thing is clear: India is no longer just a market for Škoda and Volkswagen — it’s a manufacturing powerhouse in the making.
And if this is what their smallest SUV can achieve, one can only imagine what their bigger plans look like — probably already being sketched somewhere in Pune, with a strong filter coffee and even stronger spreadsheets.
