Chennai:
While the automotive world often talks about horsepower, torque and top speed, Hyundai Motor India Limited is quietly celebrating something far more important—coming home safe. The carmaker’s manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur has been conferred the Tamil Nadu State Level Safety Award by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Government of Tamil Nadu, recognising excellence in industrial safety practices.
The prestigious honour, awarded for the year 2022, was presented by C. V. Ganesan, Hon’ble Minister for Labour Welfare & Skill Development, along with Anand, Director of Industrial Safety & Health. The award was received by Mukundan M.S., Vice President – Production, and Senthil Kumar R.M., Associate Vice President – Safety & Wellness, representing Hyundai Motor India.
Safety That’s Engineered In, Not Bolted On
The recognition places Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant firmly in the Large-Scale Industry (Group A) category, highlighting consistent reductions in incident frequency rates and a disciplined, process-driven approach to risk management. In simpler terms, fewer “oops” moments and more “all clear” days on the shop floor.
Over its three decades of operations in India, the Sriperumbudur facility has rolled out extensive safety campaigns, continuous improvement programmes and rigorous monitoring systems. While cars roll out every day, so does a culture where safety helmets, checklists and protocols are treated with the same seriousness as production targets.
‘Safety Is Not Optional Equipment’
Commenting on the achievement, Gopalakrishnan C S, Whole-time Director & Chief Manufacturing Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said:
“Safety at Hyundai is not a standalone initiative—it is a deeply embedded culture practiced at every level of our operations. Our goal is simple: a safe, secure working environment for every employee, every day. This award affirms the collective commitment of our teams and motivates us to strengthen our safety excellence even further.”
Setting the Benchmark
In an industry where speed and scale often dominate headlines, Hyundai’s recognition is a reminder that the most important metric is people. With proactive risk assessments, consistent training aligned to global safety standards, and safety campaigns running since inception, the company continues to reinforce that productivity and protection can—and must—go hand in hand.
Because at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant, the real achievement isn’t just building cars—it’s ensuring everyone who builds them returns home safely, every single day.
