VinFast VF 7 Review — An EV With Global Dreams and Local Swagger

Move aside, boring crossovers that pretend to be futuristic but still sound like your neighbour’s inverter when charging. The VinFast VF 7 has arrived — a Vietnamese electric SUV designed in Italy, assembled on three continents, and ready to prove that globalisation has never been so well-air-conditioned.

🇻🇳 Origins: Born in Hanoi, Styled in Turin, Aimed at Tesla

Launched in 2024, this is the first-generation VF 7, and like all firstborns, it’s trying to impress everyone — India, America, and Vietnam — at the same time. It’s fully electric, starting at ₹20.89 lakh and topping out at ₹25.49 lakh for this heroic “Sky Infinity” trim you see here.

The design comes courtesy of Jae Hoon Lee and the wizards at Torino Design Studio, who apparently asked themselves, “What if a fighter jet had feelings?” The result is the Asymmetric Aerospace philosophy — sharp lines, V-shaped DRLs, and curves that whisper ciao bella in a Vietnamese accent.

Behind it all stands the mighty Vingroup, founded in 2017 by Phạm Nhật Vượng — Vietnam’s richest man and apparently the only person who woke up one morning and said, “Let’s beat Toyota, Tesla, and Tata — simultaneously.”

⚡ Powertrain: Triple Threat of Volt-Fueled Madness

Our Sky Infinity variant packs dual motors and all-wheel drive, good for a combined 348 hp and 500 Nm. It rockets from 0–100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, fast enough to make your chai jump out of its cup. Top speed? 180 km/h, because VinFast knows Vietnamese roads have potholes shaped like existential dread.

If you prefer something gentler on your nerves, you can opt for:

  • 201 hp / 310 Nm RWD version with a 70 kWh battery (0–100 in 8.5 s)
  • 174 hp / 250 Nm RWD with 59.6 kWh battery (0–100 in 9.1 s)

All of them charge up to 7.2 kW AC or 110 kW DC, which means you can go from 0 to 60 percent in 28 minutes — just enough time to have a Vietnamese coffee and question your life choices.

And yes, free charging till July 2028 and three years of free maintenance. Because nothing says confidence like a company paying your electricity bill for three years.

🛞 Size, Style, and Suspension Shenanigans

At 4.5 m long, 1.9 m wide, and 1.6 m tall, the VF 7 sits perfectly between “compact SUV” and “spaceship landing pod.” Ground clearance of 190 mm ensures you can glide over Indian speed breakers like a lotus floating over chaos.

You get 19-inch black alloys, Apollo Aspire 4G+ tyres, and independent suspension all around (McPherson front, Control Blade rear) — fancy words meaning “you won’t spill your filter coffee on a flyover.”

🌈 Exterior: Crimson Drama and Vietnamese Flair

Seen here in Crimson Red, the VF 7 also comes in Green, Grey, Silver, Black, and White — basically all the colors of your mood when you see its signature V-light DRL.

It’s got automatic LED projectors, auto high-beam, follow-me-home function (because your car cares more about you than some people do), and rain-sensing wipers that start wiping faster than your ex after a breakup.

Mirrors are heated, folding, memory-equipped, and camera-infused. Essentially, each mirror has more degrees than a university topper.

🧘 Interior: Calm Chaos Meets Vegan Luxury

Step inside and the VF 7 whispers Namaste Vietnam. You’re greeted by dual-tone vegan-leather upholstery, an edge-to-edge panoramic roof, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen big enough to make your iPad jealous.

The system supports wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, games, diagnostics, and OTA updates — because even cars now demand software updates like your smartphone.

There’s also a head-up display, ventilated front seats, and a piano-style gear selector that makes you feel like you’re composing Beethoven every time you shift to Drive.

Rear passengers get 2-step reclining seats, an armrest, and a 60/40 split fold, which basically means they can pretend to nap while you burn electrons up front.

Boot space? 537 litres, enough for three suitcases, a tent, and at least one friend who regrets saying “I’ll come for the road trip.”

🧠 Tech & Safety: Level 2 Brainpower

The VF 7 doesn’t just drive; it thinks. It offers Level 2 ADAS with everything from Blind-Spot Detection to Auto Lane Change Assist, and a Driver Monitoring System that can probably tell when you’re judging other drivers.

It’s loaded with 7 airbags, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, 360-degree camera, ISOFIX mounts, and even door-open warnings. Basically, if anything goes wrong, it’ll warn you before your mother does.

📱 App Power: Your Car, Your Command

Through the VinFast App, you can lock/unlock, pre-cool the cabin, activate modes like Camp, Pet, Wash, and Valet, and even track if someone’s using your car to run samosas. Intrusion alerts and OTA updates come standard — because 2025 cars should be smarter than your Wi-Fi router.

⚙️ Ride, Handling & Range

With 4 regen levels (Off to High) and 3 drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), the VF 7 can transform from gentle Buddhist monk to caffeinated street racer at the flick of a switch.

The claimed 510 km range is achievable if you drive with zen patience. But in Sport mode — with 348 hp begging to escape — that range drops faster than your phone battery on Instagram Reels.

🏁 Verdict: A Brave New Bolt from the East

The VinFast VF 7 is bold, bright, and brimming with optimism. It’s a crossover that blends Vietnamese ambition, Italian style, and global engineering, while quietly telling the world: “If Korea can make Hyundais and China can make BYDs, why can’t we electrify your driveway too?”

Sure, it’s not cheap, it’s not subtle, and it’s definitely not anonymous — but it’s alive. The VF 7 feels like a tech-savvy monk wearing designer sneakers — calm on the outside, lightning inside.

So if you see one silently gliding by in crimson, just smile and bow a little. You’re witnessing Vietnam’s electric dream on four wheels.
