Mumbai: In a move that could make even fossil fuels blush with guilt, Tata Motors – India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer – has teamed up with Think Gas to turbocharge the country’s LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) trucking ecosystem. The partnership aims to transform long-haul freight movement with cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable energy—basically, trucks that can roar without choking the planet.
Under this newly inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Tata Motors and Think Gas will co-develop the backbone of India’s LNG highway—complete with reliable refueling stations, quality assurance, and awareness programs that promise to turn “fuel anxiety” into “fuel confidence.” The collaboration will also identify prime freight corridors and logistics clusters for rapid infrastructure expansion—because even trucks deserve their own pitstops along the green highway.
Think Gas, which already operates 18 LCNG (Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas) stations, will handle the critical business of keeping the fuel flowing—clean, cold, and consistent. Tata Motors, meanwhile, will ensure that the country’s fleet operators have access to a growing range of LNG-powered trucks that don’t just haul cargo but haul the country’s sustainability score upward.
“LNG isn’t just a cleaner fuel—it’s a smarter way forward,” quipped Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors. “Through this partnership with Think Gas, we’re paving the way for fleets to move from diesel guilt to decarbonised delight.”
Adding to the optimism, Somil Garg, Senior Vice President & Business Head (LNG Fuel), Think Gas, said, “At Think Gas, we’re building a future where cleaner fuels are not a choice but the default. Partnering with Tata Motors – a brand that’s practically synonymous with India’s roads – helps us accelerate towards that goal with full throttle.”
Tata Motors already has one of the most diversified alternative-fuel portfolios in the business, spanning electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen ICE, and even hydrogen fuel-cell technologies. Together with Think Gas, it’s now ensuring that India’s heavy-duty trucking future is not just strong and efficient, but also proudly emissions-light and laughter-heavy.
So, as diesel fumes slowly make their exit and LNG pumps light up highways from Ludhiana to Latur, one thing’s for sure – India’s trucking future is going liquefied, not left behind.
