Toyota Shifts Gears for the Classroom: Partners with Karnataka Govt to Turbocharge Vocational Education

In a move that proves Toyota isn’t just about building cars but building careers, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) to supercharge vocational education across the state. The initiative will rev up skills for over 800 students across seven districts, effectively turning classrooms into mini auto labs — minus the grease stains (hopefully).

Bridging Books and Bumpers

The partnership, under the Government of Karnataka’s Samagra Shikshana program, is aimed at students from Grades 9 to 12, bringing real-world automotive know-how to the blackboard. Think less “chalk and talk” and more “gears and torque.”
Students in schools from Kudur, Kanakapura, Peenya, Bagepalli, Byadagi, Harapanahalli, Turvihal, and Haliyal will get hands-on experience in automotive technology. Toyota will set up automobile skill labs, train teachers, and help young learners shift smoothly from textbooks to toolboxes.

Training the Trainers – and the Titans of Tomorrow

The collaboration isn’t just about teaching students how to fix cars; it’s about tuning up teachers too. A special Train-the-Trainer program will give educators exposure to Toyota’s legendary production practices and discipline-driven culture.
In true Toyota fashion, lessons won’t just revolve around torque specs and transmissions — students will also learn values, hygiene, safety mindset, and civic sense. Because what’s a good car mechanic without a little moral horsepower?

A Shared Vision for a Skilled India

Commenting on the partnership, G. Shankara, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said:

“We are privileged to collaborate with the Government of Karnataka to strengthen vocational education in the automobile sector. This initiative focuses on both technical and human skills — nurturing discipline, ethics, and sustainability along with hands-on learning. Our mission is to ‘Grow India and Grow with India,’ producing not just skilled professionals, but good citizens.”

Driving Change, One School at a Time

Toyota’s collaboration with SSK is more than a CSR checkbox. It’s a strategic pit stop on India’s long road toward Viksit Bharat 2047 and Skill India Mission. Since 2001, TKM’s CSR journey has touched lives across education, environment, road safety, and health — all guided by its “Child to Community” approach.

From Peenya’s classrooms to Raichur’s workshops, tomorrow’s auto wizards are gearing up. And who knows — the next time your car needs servicing, your mechanic might just say, “I learnt this at Toyota School.”
