Pune — If Mercedes-Benz India were a cricketer, this September was its “century with fireworks” moment. The luxury carmaker has smashed through every sales record in its India playbook, clocking its highest-ever monthly sales in history, turbocharged by the festive rush and the government’s GST 2.0 reforms.
Record-Breaking Festive Rush
The nine-day Navratri festive period turned into a star-studded pit stop for Mercedes-Benz showrooms, with 2,500+ cars finding new garages — the company’s highest-ever sales during this auspicious period. Overall, September sales surged by 36% year-on-year, fuelled by customers who had been waiting eagerly since mid-August for post-GST price adjustments to kick in.
And the good news didn’t stop there: Q2 FY 25–26 was Mercedes-Benz India’s best-ever, with 5,119 units retailed. Half-yearly figures (April–September) hit 9,357 units, reflecting a steady 4% growth, even in a market juggling forex swings and rising operational costs.
Star Sedans & Power SUVs Take the Lead
Leading the charge were familiar heavyweights: the LWB E-Class, India’s perennial luxury favourite, posted a 47% year-on-year growth, while SUVs like GLC, GLE, GLS, and the mighty AMG G 63 registered their best-ever monthly sales.
The ‘Core’ segment (E-Class, GLC, GLE) drove 60% of the brand’s total sales, while the ‘Top-End Luxury’ range (GLS, S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, AMG G 63) saw 25% penetration and 12% YoY growth. The AMG G 63, despite having a waiting period longer than a monsoon traffic jam, hit record monthly numbers.
BEVs Quietly Add Their Spark
Amid the roar of V8s and diesel torque, Mercedes’ electric offensive also charged ahead. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 8% of total sales, growing 10% thanks to strong demand for the EQS SUV. The ultra-exclusive G 580 Edition 1 with EQ Technology is already sold out for the year, with the next batch now open for bookings — because even in India, some like their luxury silent… and electric.
Festivities, Finance & Foresight
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, summed it up with a mix of gratitude and strategic coolness:
“Mercedes-Benz clocked its best-ever September sales owing to an overwhelming customer response following the GST 2.0 reforms, culminating the pent-up demand. Our attractive new portfolio combined with innovative financial programmes under the ‘Dream Days’ campaign, resulted in overwhelming demand for Mercedes-Benz cars in the luxury market. We expect this festive buying spirit to continue in October as well, with upcoming festivities including Dhanteras and Diwali.”
The GST 2.0 reform, timed just before the festive season, has acted like premium nitrogen boost in the luxury car engine bay — improving customer sentiment at precisely the moment when macroeconomic headwinds were raising prices.
Entry Luxury Keeps Aspirations Alive
While the Entry Luxury segment (A-Class, GLA) didn’t quite break records this quarter, its value-oriented strategy continues to pull in younger buyers, making it the aspirational stepping stone into the Three-Pointed Star family.
Conclusion
With record-breaking sales, booming SUV demand, electric enthusiasm, and the festive season still revving up, Mercedes-Benz India seems to have shifted into a new gear. October promises more fireworks — both on the road and in the showrooms.
