Tata Motors Shifts into GST Gear — Q2 FY26 Sees Trucks Flex Muscles and Nexon Break Records

Mumbai — Tata Motors hit the accelerator in Q2 FY26, clocking strong sales momentum across both its commercial and passenger vehicle businesses, powered by the festive season tailwinds, GST 2.0 cheer, and a fleet that means business — quite literally.

🚚 Commercial Vehicles: Monsoon to Momentum

Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle division registered sales of 94,681 units in the domestic and international markets in Q2 FY26, up from 84,281 units in the same quarter last year — a solid 12 % YoY growth.

After a sluggish July (courtesy of our not-so-helpful monsoons) and a cautious August awaiting tax clarity, the commercial segment roared back in September. With lower GST rates and the festive mood, Tata wasted no time. It rolled out sharper pricing, boosted availability, and hit the market with more activations than a Diwali fireworks stall.

September turned out to be the best month of FY26 for Tata’s commercial vehicles, thanks to a 30 % YoY jump in SCV and PU sales, led by the Ace Pro and Ace Gold+, proving that small can indeed be mighty.

MH&ICV sales followed suit, with 45,095 units sold in Q2 vs 39,433 a year ago — a performance that would make even the toughest tipper nod in approval. As Executive Director Girish Wagh put it, “We acted swiftly and decisively to capture the growth in demand… making September our best-performing sales month in FY26.”

And for those who love truck trivia: Tata’s updated range now offers engines up to 320 hp — that’s more power than some sports cars, except this time it’s pulling tonnes of coal, not cornering apexes.

🚗 Passenger Vehicles: Nexon Steals the Show, EVs Sparkle

Meanwhile, the passenger vehicle arm was in no mood to stay in second place. Tata Motors PV Ltd delivered 144,397 units in Q2 FY26 — a healthy double-digit growth of over 10 %.

September 2025 was nothing short of historic. With 60,907 units sold, Tata set its highest-ever monthly sales record, turbo-charged by GST relief and festive buying sprees.

The star of the show? Nexon, which smashed records with 22,500+ units sold in a single month — the highest for any Tata passenger vehicle, ever. Not to be outdone, the Harrier and Safari continued their “Adventure X” era with their best-ever combined sales, while the Punch kept punching above its weight in the compact SUV segment.

Green mobility also took the spotlight. EV sales surged 96 % YoY to 9,191 units in September, while CNG volumes more than doubled to 17,800+ units, proving that clean power is not just trendy — it’s Tata’s new normal. Quarterly EV sales touched nearly 25,000 units, contributing a record 17 % of total sales, underlining the company’s electric ambitions.

Managing Director Shailesh Chandra summed it up with optimism: “The surge in demand sets a promising tone for sustained growth… we are well-positioned to carry this momentum into H2 FY26.”

🏢 Demerger Drives New Chapter

Effective October 1, 2025, Tata Motors has officially demerged its Commercial Vehicles business into TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd (TMLCV), while retaining Passenger Vehicles within the parent entity. From this quarter onward, expect two separate press releases, but the same Tata DNA under the hood.

📈 The Road Ahead: Festive Highways & GST Expressways

With consumption improving, infrastructure and mining activities picking up pace, and new launches lined up, Tata Motors is clearly revving up for a high-octane H2 FY26. Whether it’s a truck hauling loads on the highway or a Nexon zipping silently in the city — Tata seems to have all lanes covered.

And if September is any indication, GST 2.0 might just be Tata’s favourite co-driver this fiscal.
