Scouts, Skills & Toyota Thrills: A New Training Camp Shifts into Gear in Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur, Karnataka — Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has swapped assembly lines for campfire lines as it officially broke ground for the new Bharat Scouts & Guides (BSG) Training and Camping Centre, a facility designed to shape young minds and possibly produce the next generation of responsible citizens… who can also pitch tents with Toyota-like precision.

🚀 Building Skills, Not Just Cars

TKM, known for its legendary manufacturing discipline, is now applying the same spirit to youth empowerment. The new centre will benefit over 2,400 students annually, providing spaces for education, recreation, and life skills training. In other words, it’s where leadership lessons meet campfire sing-alongs.

The facility will host training sessions, workshops, and outdoor activities — ensuring that tomorrow’s leaders can not only drive change but also possibly reverse a camping van on a narrow hill road without panic.

🧱 From Blueprint to Bonfire

The construction of the centre is scheduled between FY 2025–27, with work starting in January 2026 and expected completion by March 2027. Key elements include:

  • An administrative block (because every great adventure needs great paperwork)
  • A fully equipped kitchen and dining hall (because no one leads on an empty stomach)
  • Separate boys’ and girls’ dormitories, sanitation facilities, and ten tent units accommodating up to 100 students

This is not just a training centre — it’s part school, part campsite, part Toyota production system for life skills.

🗣️ Voices from the Groundbreaking Ceremony

Sudeep Santram Dalvi, Chief Communication Officer and Senior VP at TKM, summed it up best:

“We believe in nurturing skills and values that help youth become confident, self-reliant, and socially responsible citizens. This centre isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about igniting young minds to embrace challenges and lead their communities.”

PGR Sindhia, State Chief Commissioner of BSG, added with pride:

“The Bharat Scouts & Guides shape character, discipline, and leadership in young minds. This new centre will open doors for thousands of students in the region. We deeply appreciate TKM’s support.”

And with that, the foundation stone was laid — not with a robotic arm, but with equal parts vision, community spirit, and maybe a few Scouts already practicing knot-tying nearby.

🌿 A Broader Vision: From ‘Child to Community’

The initiative aligns with NEP 2020 and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports’ vision to integrate life skills and value education into youth development. For Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which has been driving community programs since 2001 across education, environment, road safety, and more, this project is a continuation of its “Child to Community” CSR approach.

Because when it comes to nation-building, Toyota isn’t just making cars — it’s helping make future-ready citizens, one Scout at a time.

This isn’t your average ribbon-cutting. It’s the beginning of a long trail where campfires meet corporate commitment, and tents become the classrooms of tomorrow. Toyota has shifted gears — from four wheels to four core values: leadership, responsibility, skill, and community.
