JSW MG’s Halol Plant Goes 80% Women at Battery Assembly Shop

Halol — In an industry often defined by torque, technology, and traditionally male-dominated shop floors, JSW MG Motor India has plugged in a new kind of power. The company has announced that its state-of-the-art battery assembly shop at Halol, Gujarat, now operates with an impressive 80% women workforce, proving that when it comes to building the heart of an EV, precision and performance know no gender.

⚙️ Manufacturing, Rewired

Once considered “heavy duty” terrain, the Halol facility’s battery assembly line is now a dynamic, three-shift operation led predominantly by women. From welding to module alignment, these women are not just participating—they’re powering the process.

The plant produces around 140 battery packs per day, catering to the MG Comet and MG Windsor electric vehicles. It’s divided into four structured segments—module line, pack line, charging & discharging line, and final assembly line—each operated with the discipline of a Formula E pit crew… minus the carbon emissions.

🧪 Safety, Science and a Bit of Spark

The process begins with open circuit voltage tests—because every good relationship starts with healthy communication between cells. This is followed by cell glue application (think of it as speed dating for cells, but with adhesives), and then precise spot and laser welding, where every micron matters.

The modules then undergo structural alignment and laser scans to make sure nothing is “off by a whisker.” Once assembled, batteries are subjected to insulation resistance tests, bus bar fixing, and finally, charging & discharging cycles—like sending them to EV boot camp before they graduate to MG vehicles.

👩‍🏭 Diversity: The Real Battery Backup

Beyond the shop floor, the bigger story is JSW MG Motor India’s push for equity. 41% of its total workforce now comprises women, and the battery assembly shop has become the symbolic (and literal) powerhouse of this change.

“At JSW MG Motor India, we truly believe that diversity powers innovation, resulting in a robust growth story. It is remarkable to witness the cohesive efforts of our teams in creating an equitable and progressive manufacturing ecosystem at our Halol facility. I am confident that our customers will also take pride in knowing that the batteries of their EVs are built by an 80% female workforce. EV Sahi Hai, and this is the spirit behind it,”
Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India.

A Jolt of Inspiration for the Industry

While the global automotive sector races toward electrification, JSW MG is proving that real transformation happens under the hood and behind the scenes. This 80% female-powered battery shop is not just assembling cells—it’s charging up India’s manufacturing narrative with inclusion, skill, and precision.
