Charged Up and Rolling: PM E-Drive Powers India’s Cities into an Electric Future

From Delhi’s chaos to Surat’s speed, 13,000+ e-buses to roll out under PM Modi’s clean transport crusade, as Kumaraswamy plugs into progress.

New Delhi – In what can only be described as a turbocharged leap towards cleaner cityscapes and quieter bus stops, the Government of India has greenlit the deployment of thousands of electric buses under the ambitious PM e-Drive scheme.

Chaired by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, the high-voltage meeting (figuratively and literally) zeroed in on mega-rollouts for key states—Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, and Gujarat. And unlike your average committee meeting, this one came with horsepower… or rather, kilowatt-power.

“Thanks to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is not just thinking electric—we’re driving it,” said Kumaraswamy, as he laid out the bus blueprint that will electrify five of the country’s fastest-growing cities.

Here’s how the e-bus buffet is being served:

  • Bengaluru: 4,500 buses (finally, a possible answer to the tech capital’s traffic horror story)
  • Delhi: 2,800 buses (the smog shall tremble)
  • Hyderabad: 2,000 buses (powered by biryani-fueled ambition)
  • Ahmedabad: 1,000 buses (sabarmati speed meets silicon torque)
  • Surat: 600 buses (diamonds won’t be the only thing sparkling here)

These battery-powered beasts will be deployed under the PM e-Drive’s ₹10,900 crore allocation, targeting 14,028 electric buses by March 2026. That’s not just a scheme—it’s a green stampede.

Kumaraswamy emphasized the scheme’s strategic intent: “This is not just about buses. It’s about breathing cleaner air, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, and maybe—just maybe—finding a bus that arrives on time.”

The initiative underscores Centre–State collaboration at its finest—proof that when it comes to sustainable transport, it takes a village… or at least four capital cities and ₹10,900 crore.

As the silent (but strong) motors prepare to hum across Indian streets, commuters can look forward to a future where the only thing loud about a bus is the playlist of the teenager sitting behind you.

Brace yourself, India—public transport is about to go shockingly smooth.
