Scrap to the Future: Tata Motors Unleashes ‘Re.Wi.Re’ in Kolkata to Dismantle with Dignity

Kolkata-
In a move that’s cleaner than a showroom windshield and greener than a brand-new EV, Tata Motors has revved up sustainability efforts by inaugurating its eighth Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) — this time in the heritage city of Kolkata. Named Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect, the high-tech graveyard for end-of-life vehicles promises a graceful exit for your loyal but long-overdue-to-retire rides.

With the capacity to bid a respectful farewell to 21,000 vehicles a year, the facility is less scrapyard, more five-star retirement home for rust buckets. From faded scooters to battle-hardened trucks, every vehicle across all brands will be ushered gently into vehicular afterlife — no drama, no pollution, and certainly no leftover coolant puddles.

Snehasis Chakraborty, West Bengal’s Hon’ble Minister of Transport, gave his blessings to the initiative, hailing it as a giant leap for clean mobility and circular economy goals. “It’s not just about scrapping old vehicles — it’s about opening doors to new opportunities, cleaner air, and perhaps, quieter horns.”

Mayor Firhad Hakim, tuning in virtually, called it a “sustainable development milestone,” while gently reminding the audience that even cities need to let go of their smoky, cranky old friends. Employment generation and environmental relief, he noted, will ride sidecar on this venture.

Rajesh Kaul, VP & Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, threw in the numbers with pride: “With eight RVSFs operational across the country and a combined scrappage capacity of 1.3 lakh vehicles annually, we’re not just taking cars off the road — we’re putting purpose into recycling.”

Operated by Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, the Re.Wi.Re. facility is a blend of precision engineering and high-decibel whirring. The plant features cell-type dismantling for commercial and two/three-wheelers and line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles — yes, scrapping has gone assembly-line now. Every tyre, battery, and drop of leftover petrol gets its moment of procedural respect.

And the best part? The entire process is fully digital, paperless, and hassle-free — finally giving you one official vehicle service where paperwork doesn’t feel like engine sludge.

So next time your old Alto coughs ominously or your rickshaw creaks like it’s narrating its autobiography, remember: Re.Wi.Re is where it can retire with pride, dignity, and zero emissions.

Now that’s what we call a respectful send-off with industrial-grade compassion.
