Pune – Stellantis, the global auto conglomerate behind Jeep, Citroën, and a growing list of alphabet-soup-worthy acronyms, has now added a spark to India’s EV landscape—literally. The company has announced that Leapmotor, its Chinese electric partner-in-charge, will soon be leaping onto Indian roads, bringing with it a fresh fleet of smart and sustainable electric vehicles.

In what can only be described as a high-voltage move, Stellantis aims to plug into the potential of one of the world’s most electrifying automotive markets. Leapmotor, a Chinese startup founded in 2015 (which, in EV years, makes it practically a veteran), sold close to 300,000 units in 2024, doubling its sales from the year before. That’s the kind of growth graph even your stockbroker would approve of.
“We’re excited to bring Leapmotor to India,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, probably while unplugging a test EV from a charging dock. “We already have a solid base here with Jeep and Citroën, but Leapmotor allows us to accelerate our sustainable mobility goals and, frankly, show off a little,” he added, probably not saying the last part, but we know he was thinking it.
The upcoming models include the compact T03 (think city runabout meets tech-savvy panda) and the C10 SUV (for families who want to save the planet and still look good doing it). With a roadmap that includes six global EVs over the next few years, the Leapmotor name may soon be as common in Indian conversations as “kitna deti hai?”
The vehicles will enter India under Leapmotor International, a 51:49 joint venture between Stellantis and Leapmotor that’s already causing waves across Europe and now aims to repeat the performance across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
By the looks of it, Stellantis isn’t just bringing new cars—it’s bringing a new charge to Indian roads.
