Frontline Fortification: Maruti Suzuki Deploys 60 Rugged Jimnys to Empower ITBP in Himalayan Highs

New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s border security, Maruti Suzuki India Limited today handed over 60 robust Jimny vehicles to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This marks the first-ever induction of the Jimny fleet into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing operational capabilities in some of the most challenging terrains along the country’s borders.

The formal handover ceremony, held at the ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi, was attended by senior officials including Abdul Ghani Mir (IPS), Additional Director General (HQ), ITBP, and Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki. The event celebrated a milestone in the long-standing association between Maruti Suzuki and India’s armed forces—a relationship that began with the iconic Gypsy and now continues with the internationally acclaimed Jimny.

Designed to thrive in extreme conditions, the Jimny’s proven off-road capabilities make it an ideal vehicle for operations in the high-altitude Himalayan regions of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. These areas, known for their rugged terrains, glaciers, and severe weather conditions—with winter temperatures plunging as low as -45 degrees Celsius—demand vehicles that can withstand the harshest environments. The Jimny is set to play a crucial role in supporting ITBP personnel by facilitating efficient patrolling, border guarding, and troop movement in these remote, strategic locations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Partho Banerjee said, “Today is a proud moment for Maruti Suzuki as we deliver the Jimny to the ITBP. The Jimny is an ideal vehicle to navigate the tough border terrains where the ITBP personnel dedicatedly protect our country. With its tagline ‘Never Turn Back’, the Jimny embodies the determination and valor of our brave soldiers. Our long-standing association with the Armed Forces—evidenced by the trusted service of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy—continues with this new chapter as we support our soldiers at the frontiers.”

The induction of the Jimny fleet is expected to enhance the ITBP’s operational efficiency in high-altitude and rugged landscapes, ensuring that border patrols are equipped with reliable and capable vehicles. This strategic move not only strengthens national security but also symbolizes the technological and manufacturing prowess of Maruti Suzuki in addressing the specialized needs of the country’s defense forces.

As the ITBP prepares for deployment in some of the world’s most challenging terrains, the new Jimnys stand ready to serve as a steadfast companion to the nation’s heroes, reinforcing the message that innovation and commitment to quality remain at the heart of India’s security initiatives.
