Digital Highways: Government Rolls Out ‘Rajmargyatra’ and ‘NHAI One’ Apps to Transform National Highways Experience

New Delhi – In a bid to enhance citizen convenience and streamline the execution of national highway projects, the Government has unveiled two innovative mobile applications – Rajmargyatra and NHAI One. Announced by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, during a session in the Lok Sabha, these apps are set to redefine the way highway travel and project management are experienced across the country.

Empowering the Highway Traveller

The Rajmargyatra app is designed as a citizen-centric platform that promises a smoother, more informed journey along the national highways. It integrates a suite of features including real-time information about toll plazas, nearby amenities like petrol pumps, hospitals, and charging stations, along with live weather updates. Travelers can also access FASTag services for seamless toll payments and benefit from multilingual support to ensure widespread accessibility.

A standout aspect of the app is its focus on safety and user empowerment. The platform not only encourages safe driving habits through speed limit alerts and voice assistance but also allows users to report highway-related issues. Citizens can submit geo-tagged images or videos to report problems such as potholes, maintenance lapses, unauthorized occupation, or other safety hazards. These reports can be tracked, ensuring transparency and accountability in addressing citizen grievances.

With over 348,632 downloads on the Google Play Store, a 4.4-star rating based on 12,000+ reviews, and 74,471 downloads on the Apple Store, the Rajmargyatra app has quickly established itself as a valuable tool for millions of highway travelers.

Revolutionizing Project Management

Parallel to the traveler-centric initiative, the NHAI One app serves as an essential tool for efficient highway project management. This app integrates five of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) core internal operations: Field Staff Attendance, Highway Maintenance, Road Safety Audits, Toilet Maintenance, and Daily Construction Audits via Request for Inspections (RFI).

Tailored for use by on-ground stakeholders such as Regional Offices, Project Directors, concessionaires, contractors, AE/IEs, road safety auditors, and toilet supervisors, NHAI One ensures that project management is handled seamlessly and data-driven decisions are made directly from the field. Like its counterpart, all the data recorded through NHAI One is geo-tagged and time-stamped, adding a layer of accountability and precision to project monitoring.

Continuous Improvements and User Feedback

While the feedback for both apps has been largely positive, some users have pointed out technical issues such as app crashes and delays in updating live data. In response, dedicated development teams are continuously rolling out updates and system optimizations to enhance performance and user experience.

These technological initiatives are part of a broader government effort to leverage digital tools for better public service delivery. By addressing both the needs of highway travelers and on-ground project managers, the Rajmargyatra and NHAI One apps are poised to significantly boost operational efficiency and service quality on national highways.

As these apps evolve with regular updates and user feedback, they are expected to play a pivotal role in modernizing India’s highway infrastructure, setting a benchmark for future digital interventions in public service delivery.
