Mumbai – The Bus and Car Operators Confederation of India (BOCI), the premier organization representing passenger transport operators nationwide, has unveiled its National Committee for the next three years, signaling a renewed commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration. The announcement, made during a high-profile press conference in Mumbai, marks a pivotal moment for the industry as it navigates a rapidly changing transportation landscape.
Leading the charge is Prasanna Patwardhan, who has been re-elected as National President. Joining him are other key office-bearers: A. Afzal (National Vice President), Dharmaraj D.R. (General Secretary), Harsh Kotak (Treasurer), and Babu Panikar (Additional Secretary). Together, this team aims to redefine the future of passenger transport in India.
A Vision for Transformation
In his address, Patwardhan emphasized the critical need for adaptability and forward-thinking in the sector. “Public transport is not just a service—it’s the backbone of sustainable and inclusive mobility. As India progresses toward becoming a developed nation, BOCI is dedicated to creating an ecosystem that embraces innovation, prioritizes last-mile connectivity, and adopts Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions. Our goal is to make public transport more accessible, efficient, and seamless for every citizen,” he said.
Highlighting the strategic priorities for his new term, Patwardhan outlined a roadmap focused on fostering collaboration across stakeholders, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and aligning with international best practices. “Our initiatives will address industry challenges while creating opportunities for operators to thrive in a dynamic environment. We aim to build a sustainable future that empowers both operators and passengers,” he added.
Driving Sustainability and Global Integration
Since its inception in 2016, BOCI has been a vocal advocate for addressing regulatory and operational challenges in the transport sector, including taxation reforms and infrastructure development. Now, the organization is stepping up its efforts to champion sustainable transportation, particularly the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and green technologies.
BOCI is also looking outward, aiming to forge international partnerships that bring global expertise to India’s evolving transport landscape. These collaborations will be crucial in integrating Indian operations with global standards, ensuring competitiveness and innovation.
The Road Ahead
As the transport sector faces transformative shifts, BOCI’s leadership team is committed to elevating the industry’s role in shaping India’s growth narrative. By championing sustainability, leveraging technology, and strengthening collaboration, the organization seeks to position public transport as a central pillar of India’s development goals.
With a strong leadership team and a clear vision, BOCI is poised to drive meaningful change, making passenger transport in India a model for efficiency and sustainability worldwide.
