New Delhi – The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released its vehicle retail data for the 42-day festive period, showcasing a remarkable performance by the Indian auto sector. This period, spanning from the first day of Navratri to 15 days post-Dhanteras, has driven the industry to new heights.
A Festive Surge in Vehicle Sales
Reflecting on the festive season’s performance, FADA President, C S Vigneshwar, expressed his elation over the sector’s growth trajectory. “This year’s festive period has been extraordinary, with retail numbers crossing a significant milestone. A total of 42.88 lakh vehicles were registered, marking an 11.76% growth compared to last year’s 38.37 lakh units,” he shared.
- Two-Wheeler Market: Leading the charge, two-wheelers registered a robust 13.79% growth, reaching 33.11 lakh units. This surge was propelled by heightened rural demand, underlining the sector’s resilience.
- Passenger Vehicles: Passenger vehicle sales rose by 7.10% to 6.03 lakh units, fueled by pent-up demand and attractive festive discounts.
Challenges and Opportunities
Despite these impressive numbers, unseasonal rains in South India, particularly in Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu, alongside Cyclone Dana’s impact in Odisha, slightly dampened the sector’s potential to hit the anticipated target of 45 lakh units. However, FADA remains optimistic about closing the year on a high note.
“With 1.5 months left in 2024, we encourage OEMs to prioritize clearing existing stock to ensure dealers start 2025 with the recommended 21 days of inventory,” Vigneshwar advised.
Looking Beyond the Festivities
As the auto industry gears up for the year-end, key factors like government-driven infrastructure investments are expected to boost commercial vehicle sales. The tractor segment, too, is poised for growth, aided by favorable rainfall and increased Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops, which will enhance rural purchasing power.
This festive season’s triumph underscores the auto sector’s resilience and adaptability, setting the stage for a promising future in 2025.
