New BMW 1 Series Variants, Enhanced Charging Speeds, and Expanded In-Car Entertainment
Munich, Germany – BMW is set to introduce an array of updates across several key models as part of their autumn 2024 rollout, including new drivetrains, enhanced charging capabilities, and cutting-edge in-car entertainment features. This strategic refresh aims to solidify BMW’s position as a leader in both performance and innovation, offering more customization options, improved energy efficiency, and an elevated driving experience.
Expanded Line-Up for the BMW 1 Series and 5 Series
BMW’s popular 1 Series gets a significant boost with the addition of two new variants. The new entry-level BMW 116 features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 122 horsepower and promising an economical yet enjoyable drive in the premium compact class. For those seeking more power and control, the all-new BMW 123 xDrive brings all-wheel drive and electrified 48V mild-hybrid technology to the lineup, with a combined system output of 218 horsepower.
The 5 Series Touring sees the introduction of three additional drive variants. These include a fully electric BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring with 520 km of range, a plug-in hybrid BMW 550e xDrive Touring that combines a six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW eDrive technology, and the BMW 520i Touring with a four-cylinder petrol engine equipped with mild hybrid tech.
Faster Charging and Greater Efficiency
BMW continues to push the boundaries of efficiency with enhanced charging capabilities. From autumn 2024, the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series, X5, and M5 will benefit from a nearly 50% increase in charging power, reducing full charging times significantly. These models will be able to charge from 0% to 100% in as little as two hours, allowing for more flexible and environmentally friendly everyday driving.
BMW OS 9: Digital Payments, Gaming, and Video Streaming
BMW’s Operating System 9 (OS 9) will introduce new digital convenience features. Among these is a pioneering in-car fuel payment system, enabling drivers to pay at participating stations directly from their vehicles. In addition, the new system will offer optimized search and selection for charging stations, filtering options for preferred operators, and details about station access.
For entertainment on the go, BMW is rolling out video streaming and in-car gaming to a broader range of models. Passengers in cars like the X5, X6, and iX can enjoy video content and casual gaming from the AirConsole platform while stationary, with more gaming titles available from December 2024.
Customized Performance for the BMW M135 xDrive
Performance enthusiasts will appreciate the new M Technology Package, available exclusively for the BMW M135 xDrive. This package enhances driving dynamics with upgraded suspension components, lightweight construction elements, and improved braking systems. The package promises superior handling and responsiveness, ideal for both track performance and daily driving.
Enhanced Comfort and Personalization Options
New exterior paint finishes, alloy wheels, and interior trim options provide further personalization for models like the BMW 1 Series, X2, and 5 Series. Additionally, BMW has enhanced the Comfort Package for the X1 and 2 Series Active Tourer, now offering electric seat adjustments and active seat features for both driver and passenger.
