Tata Motors Sets New Safety Benchmark: Safari and Harrier Win Global NCAP’s Prestigious Safer Choice Award

In a significant milestone for Indian automotive safety, Tata Motors has earned the highly coveted Global NCAP Safer Choice Award for its flagship SUVs, the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier. This award is a recognition of the company’s dedication to advancing safety in vehicles sold in India, setting new benchmarks for the industry.

Both models, Safari and Harrier, had previously achieved five-star ratings for adult and child occupant protection, garnering the highest scores in Global NCAP’s renowned #SaferCarsForIndia initiative. In an effort to further enhance their safety credentials, Tata Motors submitted the SUVs for additional tests to meet the stringent Safer Choice criteria. These include ensuring compliance with advanced safety systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), speed assistance, and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).

Mohan Savarkar, Vice President and Chief Product Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, expressed pride in the company’s safety achievements. “Receiving the Global NCAP Safer Choice Award for the Tata Safari and Harrier is a testament to our unwavering commitment to vehicle safety. We have consistently led the conversation on safety, and this recognition is a reflection of our pledge to ensure that all vehicles we produce, across all price points, meet the highest safety standards.”

Tata Motors has now become the only automaker in India to offer an entire SUV lineup that is fully 5-star rated. Savarkar highlighted that the company’s efforts go beyond mere regulatory compliance. “Safety has now emerged as a top priority for the Indian car buyer, and we are proud to set this benchmark for the industry. We are thankful to Global NCAP for their continued support as we make Indian roads safer.”

The Global NCAP Safer Choice Award, first launched in 2018 and updated in 2024, sets rigorous requirements for automakers. These include achieving a five-star rating for both adult and child protection, as well as implementing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like AEB and BSD.

David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Tata Motors for their leadership in automotive safety. “Tata Motors’ commitment to improving road safety is commendable. Their dedication to delivering both occupant and vulnerable road user protection is central to Global NCAP’s mission. We are proud to present this award to them for the Safari and Harrier, and we look forward to seeing more automakers follow suit.”

With this recognition, Tata Motors solidifies its position as a trailblazer in automotive safety, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing safety for Indian consumers and the broader global market.
