Mumbai, August 01, 2024: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), a crucial division of the Mahindra Group, reported a significant milestone in its tractor sales for July 2024. With domestic sales reaching 25,587 units, the sector showcased a commendable 6% increase from the 24,168 units sold in July 2023.
The total tractor sales, which combine both domestic and export figures, surged to 27,209 units in July 2024. This marks a notable rise compared to the 25,175 units recorded during the same period last year. The export segment also demonstrated impressive growth, with 1,622 units sold overseas, reflecting a robust 61% year-on-year increase.
Hemant Sikka, President of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Sector, attributed this growth to several favorable factors. “We have sold 25,587 tractors in the domestic market in July 2024, achieving a 6% growth over the previous year,” Sikka remarked. He emphasized the significant impact of the South-West monsoon, which brought surplus rainfall to central, western, and southern states. However, he noted that regions like Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand still faced deficient rainfall.
The progress in Kharif sowing has been substantial, boosting farmer sentiment across India. Sikka highlighted that higher crop prices for wheat and potato, coupled with an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all major Kharif crops, have further elevated farmer morale. He acknowledged that the continuation of favorable rainfall would be a critical factor to monitor in the coming months.
Additionally, Sikka pointed to budget allocations supporting the agricultural and rural economy and favorable terms of trade for farmers as key drivers of optimism. The upcoming festive season is anticipated to be particularly promising for the tractor industry, given these supportive conditions.
In the export market, the sector’s performance was equally impressive, with 1,622 tractors sold in July 2024, reflecting a substantial 61% growth compared to the previous year. This growth in exports underscores Mahindra’s expanding global footprint and the increasing demand for its farm equipment.
Overall, Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector has demonstrated resilience and strategic prowess, capitalizing on favorable monsoon conditions and robust market dynamics. As the festive season approaches, the sector is poised for continued success, buoyed by strong farmer sentiment and supportive economic policies.
