Carlos Sainz to Drive for Williams Racing in 2025 and Beyond
Williams Racing has officially announced that Carlos Sainz will join their driver lineup for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, marking a significant shift in the team’s trajectory. The seasoned Spaniard, who brings a wealth of experience from Scuderia Ferrari, has signed a two-year contract with options for extension.
Carlos Sainz, 29, boasts an impressive Formula 1 career with three race victories, 23 podiums, and over 1,100 career points. Currently sitting fifth in this season’s Drivers’ Championship, Sainz made headlines as the only non-Red Bull Racing driver to secure a race victory in 2023, clinching the win at the Australian Grand Prix shortly after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.
Sainz expressed his enthusiasm about joining Williams Racing: “I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards. This year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex, but I am fully confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey. The challenge of bringing Williams back to the front of the grid excites me, and I look forward to contributing to this historic team’s success.”
Sainz will team up with Alex Albon, forming a dynamic duo aimed at propelling Williams Racing back to the forefront of Formula 1. Continuing to race with the number 55, Sainz’s addition underscores Williams’ commitment to a new era of competitiveness and success.
James Vowles, Williams Racing’s Team Principal, highlighted the significance of this acquisition: “Carlos joining Williams is a strong statement of intent from both parties. He has demonstrated his talent and race-winning capability, which aligns perfectly with our vision. With Carlos and Alex, we will have one of the most formidable driver line-ups on the grid as we head into the new regulations in 2026.”
Williams Racing also extended their gratitude to Logan Sargeant for his dedication over the past two years. Sargeant, a Williams Driver Academy graduate, made history as the first American driver in 30 years to score a point in Austin last year. The team remains committed to supporting his future endeavors in racing.
The arrival of Carlos Sainz marks a pivotal moment for Williams Racing, symbolizing their determination to reclaim their legacy and compete at the highest level in Formula 1.
