Stuttgart, Germany – As Porsche propels into the future, the iconic Cayenne SUV is set to undergo a significant transformation. The fourth generation, slated to be all-electric, is already in the throes of a demanding test program with its first camouflaged prototypes on the road. However, Porsche is not abandoning its roots, as it continues to develop robust hybrid and combustion engine models alongside its electric ambitions. The SUV, known for its blend of performance, comfort, and off-road capability, will offer three powertrain variants well into the next decade.
Over its two-decade history, the Cayenne has epitomized the fusion of Porsche’s driving prowess, everyday comfort, and rugged versatility. The forthcoming models promise to uphold this legacy, integrating the latest advancements while retaining the brand’s quintessential characteristics. “The Cayenne has always set the standard for sports SUVs. The upcoming all-electric fourth generation will redefine these benchmarks,” stated Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. He further emphasized that customers will continue to have a choice between powerful combustion and hybrid models alongside the electric version.
The current Cayenne generation, which received a comprehensive upgrade last year, will see further advancements. This includes significant technological investments aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the V8 engines, ensuring compliance with future regulations. Porsche is committed to maintaining its performance edge while meeting stringent environmental standards.
A Strategic Push Towards Electrification
Porsche’s commitment to electromobility is unwavering. “Our strategy could see over 80% of our new cars being fully electrified by 2030, subject to market demands and regional developments,” Blume added. The fourth-generation Cayenne, built on an evolved Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture, is a crucial part of this strategy. Michael Steiner, Porsche’s Executive Board Member for Research and Development, noted, “The PPE’s flexibility allows us to incorporate the latest in high-voltage systems, powertrains, and chassis technology, pushing the Cayenne to new heights in performance.”
Rigorous Testing to Ensure Excellence
Real-world testing of the all-electric Cayenne has commenced, marking a pivotal milestone in its development. “These tests are essential to meet our stringent quality standards,” said Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne. By its launch, the prototypes will have endured millions of test kilometers across various climates and terrains, ensuring the vehicle’s durability and reliability.
