MG Unveils All-New HS SUV at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Revamped MG HS Models Boast Advanced Features, Hybrid Powertrains, and Cutting-Edge Design

Goodwood, UK – July 12, 2024 – MG Motor has unveiled the highly anticipated new HS SUV at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, marking a significant milestone as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary. The new HS range, which includes both petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, promises to captivate car enthusiasts with its sharp styling, enhanced space, and impressive infotainment offerings. The unveiling underscores MG’s commitment to delivering exceptional value and innovation in the competitive SUV market.

A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation

The MG HS has established itself as a top contender in the UK automotive market, consistently ranking among the top ten best-selling cars in 2024 and demonstrating robust sales performance throughout 2023. With the introduction of the new HS models, MG aims to build on this success, offering a refreshed line-up that elevates the driving experience.

David Allison, Head of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, expressed his excitement about the new models, stating, “The outgoing HS SUV has been immensely popular. However, the new SE and Trophy models raise the bar with even more equipment and functionality, a distinctive MG appearance that sets the HS apart from other SUVs, and a choice of advanced petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains. This strong MG all-rounder is now adding even more to its game.”

Advanced Powertrains: Efficiency and Performance

The new MG HS is available with a choice of advanced petrol and PHEV powertrains. The PHEV variant pairs a 105kW (142ps) 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 154kW electric motor, achieving 0-62mph in just 6.8 seconds. This model boasts a best-in-class electric-only range of up to 75 miles, powered by a substantial 24.7kWh battery. UK company car drivers will benefit from a 5% Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate and significant fuel savings.

For those preferring a petrol engine, the new HS offers a 1.5T engine delivering 125kW (169ps) and 275Nm of torque, reaching 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds. Customers can choose between a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed DCT automatic.

Sophisticated Design and Enhanced Space

The new MG HS features refined exterior proportions with a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, and a rising shoulder line, contributing to a more athletic silhouette. The SUV’s dimensions have been adjusted, making it 14mm wider and 45mm longer (4,655mm for petrol and 4,670mm for PHEV models) while reducing the overall height by 30mm. The increased wheelbase of 2,765mm enhances interior space, providing a more spacious cabin.

The front grille, inspired by the latest MG design language, and new slimmer headlights add a technological flair, while the rear LED taillights and X-shape motif create a distinctive night-time signature.

Cutting-Edge Infotainment and Comfort

Inside, the new HS SE and Trophy models offer a luxurious and technologically advanced cabin. Dual 12.3-inch high-definition displays dominate the dashboard, with the central display dedicated to infotainment, including live navigation, weather updates, traffic information, Amazon Music access, and smartphone connectivity via Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. The Trophy model features a 360° surround view camera and wireless smartphone charging.

The driver’s display offers multiple themes and modes, providing detailed navigation, essential driving information, or real-time visualization of the vehicle’s surroundings, supported by advanced driver assistance systems.

Enhanced Safety and Convenience

Safety and convenience are paramount in the new HS models. The MG Pilot package includes features such as Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Driver Attention Alert, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Door Open Warning. The DCT models also include Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

Unmatched Value and Availability

Starting at £24,995 (INR 27.07 lakh), the new MG HS offers exceptional value for money. The Trophy model, priced from £33,995, includes additional premium features such as 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, power tailgate, 8-speaker audio system, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality on PHEV models.

Customers can choose from five premium exterior colors: White Pearl, Black Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic, Hampstead Grey Metallic, and Dynamic Red Tri-coat. The HS Trophy also offers an option for tan leather-style upholstery, adding a touch of luxury to the cabin.

The new MG HS is available for order immediately, with first deliveries of the petrol variant expected by the end of July, and PHEV models arriving in showrooms by the end of September. With its blend of advanced technology, sophisticated design, and exceptional value, the new HS is set to make a significant impact in the SUV market.
