Kia Sonet Skyrockets to Stellar Sales, Hits 400,000 in Under 44 Months

New Delhi, April 26, 2024 – In a remarkable achievement, Kia Sonet has zoomed past the 400,000 sales mark in less than four years since its debut. This milestone cements Sonet’s position as a leading choice in the competitive Compact SUV market, with a commanding 33.3% share in Kia India’s overall sales figures. The Sonet, which launched in September 2020, has sold 317,754 units domestically and exported an additional 85,814, showcasing its widespread appeal both in India and internationally.

Kia Sonet has not only achieved impressive sales but also set new standards in the Compact SUV segment with innovative features, a bold design, and dynamic performance. According to recent data, 63% of Sonet customers opted for models with a sunroof, while engine preferences were split with 37% favoring the robust 1.5L diesel engine and 63% choosing petrol options.

The Sonet has seen a notable consumer trend towards automatic transmissions, with the 7DCT model experiencing a 37.50% increase in popularity since 2020. Automatic variants now make up 28% of Sonet’s sales, while the iMT continues to attract a significant portion of buyers, contributing to 23% of total sales.

Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer at Kia India, expressed his enthusiasm about the Sonet’s success, stating, “The compact SUV segment presents a significant opportunity, particularly with many first-time buyers. Sonet has captivated this demographic perfectly, offering a futuristic, tech-enabled, and comfortable driving experience, all while ensuring low ownership costs.”

Kia has also recently enhanced the Sonet lineup by adding new variants in both diesel and petrol options, including features such as a sunroof, LED connected taillamps, and fully automatic temperature control, to cater to the evolving needs of modern consumers.

Reinforced by the ‘Make in India, for the World’ initiative, Sonet continues to attract new-age customers with an average of over 9,000 units sold per month. Following its latest update in January 2024, which included advanced ADAS, a fresh design, and 70 connected features, Sonet has strengthened its market position, now holding a 14% share in the fiercely contested CSUV segment in the first quarter of CY2024.
