Škoda India Launches Kushaq Onyx with Automatic Transmission

Most Affordable Automatic SUV in Its Segment

Mumbai, 11th June 2024 – Škoda Auto India continues to enhance its product lineup with the introduction of the Kushaq Onyx equipped with an automatic transmission. Initially launched in Q1 2023, the Onyx variant has quickly become a favorite among customers for its combination of value and features from higher trims. This latest upgrade aims to make the Kushaq Onyx the most affordable automatic SUV in its segment.

Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Škoda Auto India, commented on the new offering, stating, “The Onyx variant has been pivotal in our lineup, merging the value of the Active trim with the features of higher variants. Our latest Kushaq Onyx with an automatic transmission addresses the growing demand for an affordable automatic SUV, reinforcing our commitment to customer satisfaction and hassle-free ownership.”

Key Features and Enhancements:

  • Engine and Transmission: The Kushaq Onyx AT is powered by the 1.0 TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 85 kW (115 ps) of power and 178 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
  • Exterior Upgrades: The Onyx AT inherits features from the higher Ambition variant, including Škoda Crystalline LED headlamps with DRLs, front fog lamps with static cornering function, rear wiper and defogger, Tecton wheel covers, and Onyx badging on the B-pillars.
  • Interior Enhancements: The cabin now features Hill Hold Control, Paddle Shifters, a 2-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel with a chrome scroller, Climatronic with a touch panel, and Onyx-themed cushions and textile mats. Additionally, the front scruff plates bear the Onyx inscription, and six airbags are now standard.

The Kushaq Onyx AT builds on the SUV’s strong safety record. The vehicle scored highly in the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP), achieving 29.64 points out of 34 for adult occupant safety and 42 out of 49 for child safety, making it the first made-in-India car to receive five stars in both categories.

The Kushaq, built on the MQB-A0-IN platform developed for India, emphasizes high localization (95%) and low cost of ownership, starting at Rs 0.46 per kilometre. Launched in July 2021, the Kushaq has become a cornerstone of Škoda’s lineup, followed by the Slavia sedan in March 2022. Škoda Auto India plans to debut a new compact SUV on this platform in 2025, further expanding its offerings.

The introduction of the Kushaq Onyx AT underscores Škoda Auto India’s strategy of responding to customer feedback and continuously enhancing its product portfolio to deliver high value and satisfaction.
