Chennai, May 27, 2024 – Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has inaugurated its first 180 kW DC fast public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Chennai. Located at the Spencer Plaza Mall in Anna Salai, Thousand Lights, this charging station features both 150 kW and 30 kW connectors and is accessible to all compatible four-wheelers, regardless of brand and model.
In a significant move towards expanding the EV infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, HMIL plans to establish 100 such fast charging stations across key highways and cities in the state. This initiative is part of HMIL’s commitment to supporting Tamil Nadu’s transition to electric mobility.
Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director of Corporate Planning at HMIL, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Tamil Nadu is home to Hyundai Motor India Limited, and we have been dedicated to this state since our inception. Celebrating 28 years in India, we are thrilled to launch our first 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. Our goal is to enhance the convenience for all EV users, aligning with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’. This charging station is just the beginning, as we aim to install 100 more across Tamil Nadu to boost the EV ecosystem and encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles.”
EV owners can locate, navigate, and pre-book charging slots through the myHyundai app, which also facilitates digital payments and remote monitoring of charging status. The app is accessible to both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users. Additionally, over 170 charging points in Tamil Nadu are currently mapped in the “EV Charge” section of the app for customer convenience.
Strategically placed in the heart of Chennai, the charging station at Spencer Plaza Mall is surrounded by various customer amenities, including coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping venues, ensuring a pleasant experience while charging their vehicles.
