Sant’Agata Bolognese, 18 March 2024 – Celebrating a momentous milestone, Automobili Lamborghini has orchestrated a nostalgic return for the 350 GT to Geneva, Switzerland, commemorating six decades since its inaugural unveiling in March 1964. This event pays homage to the Lamborghini 350 GT, the marque’s first production model, symbolizing the genesis of Lamborghini’s storied history in high-performance automotive engineering.
In a journey back to its roots, the iconic 350 GT, boasting the second chassis number – the oldest surviving production model from the esteemed Italian carmaker – paraded through the streets of Geneva. This historic return not only celebrates the legacy of the 350 GT but also highlights Lamborghini’s enduring presence in the luxury sports car segment.
Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964, the 350 GT emerged from the visionary minds of Franco Scaglione for its prototype design and was expertly crafted by Carrozzeria Sargiotto in Turin. The production variant followed, realizing Ferruccio Lamborghini’s ambition of creating a distinguished and high-performing sports car that would rival the best in the industry. With its aluminum bodywork fashioned by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan and an exquisite interior adorned with leather and chrome, the 350 GT set new standards in automotive design and luxury.
Underneath its polished exterior, the 350 GT featured a potent 3.5-liter V12 engine designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, with engineering contributions from Giampaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani that ensured its competitive edge and roadworthiness. This engine would later evolve, securing its place as a cornerstone of Lamborghini’s engineering prowess and serving as a foundation for future models.
The 350 GT’s premiere was a landmark event, capturing the attention of the media and establishing Lamborghini’s reputation for excellence. Its design and engineering innovations set the stage for a legacy of iconic models that continue to define the brand.
The vehicle presented at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show was the very first 350 GT, distinguished by its Metallic Geneva Green color and white interior. Although this particular car met an untimely end, the second 350 GT produced, finished in metallic gray with a red interior, has been meticulously restored and certified by Lamborghini Polo Storico. This car’s survival and restoration underscore the enduring legacy and significance of Lamborghini’s first production model.
As Lamborghini reminisces about its debut 60 years ago, the 350 GT’s journey back to Geneva is more than a celebration; it’s a testament to the enduring allure and pioneering spirit of the Lamborghini brand.
