In a moo-ving tale of transformation, Tata Motors, alongside the Ahmedabad District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited and the Gujarat Dairy Development Board, have churned up a new ‘White Revolution’ around Sanand, Gujarat. This dairy delightful initiative has milked its way to socio-economic prosperity, enriching over 1600 women’s lives with better education and healthcare, and creaming up their community standing.
Gujarat, swimming in the milk of India’s largest dairy pool, was facing a skimmed per capita yield. The women of Bharwar and Koli Patel communities in Sanand, traditionally the dairy queens, received cows or buffaloes as wedding gifts and managed the dairy farming cycle from grass to glass.
Then Tata Motors steered in a few years ago, introducing these women to the power of cooperatives and technology, putting the ‘smart’ in farm. This led to Automated Milk Collection Systems and Bulk Milk Chilling Units, turning over 4496 cooperative members across 32 villages from regular farmers into dairy disruptors.
These women are now cashing in their milk money to send kids to school and turning the tide on maternal and child mortality with better healthcare. Vinod Kulkarni, the CSR Head at Tata Motors, highlights their aim to be more than just project executors but catalysts of lasting change. Their dairy initiative is a testament to this, stirring up hope and sustainability in these communities.
Hemant B Patel from the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited adds that Tata Motors’ support and tech-savvy approach have not just boosted milk production but also fostered a spirit of togetherness, creating sustainable opportunities for growth and positive economic transformation.
In essence, Tata Motors’ ‘White Revolution’ is more than just about milk; it’s about nurturing communities, one dairy at a time, proving that sometimes the best way to bring change is to just add milk!
