Chandigarh’s Costliest Hybrid Puzzle: Honda CR-Z Makes a Million Rupee Leap!

In a bold move that defies market logic, a Chandigarh seller lists a Honda CR-Z for the price of a luxury condo on wheels

In an astonishing turn of events that has car enthusiasts and potential buyers scratching their heads in bewilderment, a 2017 Honda CR-Z 1.5 Hybrid has been put up for sale in Sector 10, Chandigarh, with a price tag that could only be described as audaciously optimistic. The asking price? A cool INR 25 lakh, plus a 2% commission for the privilege of owning a vehicle that, in a parallel universe known as the United Kingdom, would fetch no more than INR 8 lakh.

This black beauty, manufactured in July 2015 and first registered in 2017, has been driven a modest 15,000 kilometers by its first and only owner. It comes with third-party insurance, ensuring that the buyer is at least covered for damages to others in the unlikely event they decide to splurge on this collector’s item.

The Honda CR-Z, a sport compact hybrid electric car, was introduced by Honda as a “sport hybrid coupe.” It marries a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with the aesthetics and seating arrangement of a traditional sports car, paying homage to the second-generation Honda CR-X in both spirit and design. Powered by a 1.5 L i-VTEC SOHC engine coupled with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid-electric system, the CR-Z boasts a combined peak output of 121 bhp and torque ranging up to 174 N⋅m, depending on the transmission.

However, despite its unique blend of sportiness and eco-friendliness, the CR-Z was discontinued by Honda in 2016 to make way for newer hybrid models like the Accord Hybrid and Clarity, making it a rare find on the global market—though perhaps not rare enough to justify its hefty price tag in Chandigarh.

The listing has sparked a wave of incredulity and humor across social media, with users quick to point out the absurdity of the price. One user, rnav_rs, commented on the situation with a dose of reality, suggesting that for INR 25 lakh, one might be better off purchasing a newer model Honda CRV or Civic, both of which offer superior space, comfort, and perhaps a bit more value for the money.

As this story unfolds, the Chandigarh CR-Z stands as a testament to the unpredictable nature of car pricing and the eternal hope of sellers aiming high—perhaps too high. Whether this hybrid will find a buyer willing to part with their millions remains to be seen, but for now, it serves as a humorous reminder of the unique finds that can emerge in the world of used car sales.
