Pune: Jeep India has launched the Compass Sport 9AT at ₹21.99 lakh (ex-showroom), introducing a nine-speed automatic transmission to the SUV’s entry-level Sport variant for the first time. The new front-wheel-drive (FWD) model becomes the most affordable automatic Jeep Compass offered in India, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the second week of November 2026.
The introduction expands the Compass lineup by making its diesel-automatic powertrain available at a lower price point. Previously positioned higher in the range, the automatic transmission is now being offered in the entry-level Sport trim, targeting customers seeking the convenience of an automatic gearbox without moving to a more expensive variant.
2.0-Litre Diesel Engine With 170 HP and 350 Nm
The Jeep Compass Sport 9AT is powered by the familiar 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged diesel engine, producing 170 HP and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, designed to provide smoother acceleration and more convenient operation during everyday driving.
The new variant comes exclusively with a front-wheel-drive configuration, while the broader Compass portfolio continues to offer both two-wheel-drive (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) options, alongside manual and automatic transmissions.
For drivers regularly negotiating India’s increasingly crowded urban roads, the availability of an automatic transmission in the entry-level variant could be a welcome development. After all, stop-and-go traffic rarely provides an opportunity to appreciate the finer points of manual gear changes.

Safety, Technology and Convenience Features
Despite being positioned as the entry-level automatic model, the Compass Sport 9AT retains several safety and convenience features from the existing Compass range.
Standard equipment includes six airbags, Auto Hold and cruise control. The SUV also features a 21.3 cm (8.4-inch) Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Additional convenience features include steering-mounted controls and electrically adjustable door mirrors.
Jeep has also retained the Compass’s Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) suspension system, which is designed to balance ride comfort and handling across varying road surfaces.
The SUV additionally features Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), a system intended to support steering responsiveness and vehicle stability during driving.
Together, these features aim to preserve the driving characteristics associated with the Compass while making its automatic powertrain available to a broader customer base.
Jeep India Aims to Make Automatic Compass More Accessible
Commenting on the launch, Kumar Priyesh, Business Head and Director, Automotive Brands, Stellantis India, said:
“The Compass has always stood for authentic Jeep capability, distinctive design and a confident driving experience. With the introduction of the 9-speed automatic transmission in the Compass Sport, we are making that experience more accessible than ever before.”
The launch reflects Jeep India’s efforts to broaden the appeal of the Compass in the premium SUV segment, where automatic transmissions have become an increasingly important consideration for customers prioritising convenience, particularly in urban driving conditions.
Optional Accessory Pack Priced at ₹29,900
Jeep is also offering an optional accessory package for the Compass Sport 9AT, priced at ₹29,900.
The package includes ambient lighting, a dashcam with predictive safety features, Swoosh decals, all-weather floor mats and mud flaps.
These accessories allow buyers to add practical equipment and styling enhancements without changing the SUV’s core mechanical specifications.
Price and Availability
The Jeep Compass Sport 9AT carries an ex-showroom price of ₹21.99 lakh, making it the most accessible automatic variant in the Compass range.
Customer deliveries are scheduled to commence during the second week of November 2026 through Jeep dealerships and Stellantis Brand Houses across India.
The introduction of the Sport 9AT gives Jeep a more affordable diesel-automatic offering without requiring customers to step up to a higher trim. As convenience, equipment and pricing continue to shape buying decisions in India’s competitive SUV market, the new variant could help the Compass appeal to customers who previously found its automatic options beyond their budget.
