Gurugram: Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has deployed electric heavy-duty trucks from Blue Energy Motors for commercial freight operations, expanding the use of lower-emission vehicles across its logistics network ahead of World EV Day.
The trucks were flagged off at Gateway Distriparks’ Inland Container Depot at Garhi Harsaru in Gurugram and will be used for freight movement within the company’s transportation network, including first- and last-mile container connectivity.
The deployment comes as India’s logistics sector increasingly explores alternatives to conventional diesel-powered heavy commercial vehicles, particularly for routes where charging infrastructure and predictable operating cycles can make electrification more practical.
Gateway Distriparks said the move forms part of its broader effort to reduce the environmental impact of freight movement without compromising the reliability and operational efficiency required in container logistics.
The Blue Energy Motors trucks have been developed specifically for commercial freight applications and use advanced battery technology and vehicle management systems. The company said the vehicles are designed to provide the reliability, uptime and performance required for demanding logistics operations.

For logistics operators, the transition is about more than swapping a fuel tank for a battery pack. Heavy-duty electric vehicles must also prove themselves on utilisation, charging availability, payload requirements and turnaround times — areas where commercial fleets have considerably less room for experimentation than a weekend commuter.

Electric Trucks Gain Ground in Indian Freight Operations
The deployment adds to growing efforts to introduce electric vehicles into India’s heavy-duty freight sector, where long distances, high vehicle utilisation and the requirement for dependable charging infrastructure have traditionally made electrification more challenging than in passenger vehicles.
Blue Energy Motors said its electric heavy-duty trucks have travelled on the Mumbai–Delhi NCR corridor, one of the country’s major freight routes, demonstrating the potential for zero-tailpipe-emission commercial transport over important logistics corridors.
The company currently has more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks operating across key freight routes in India.
According to Blue Energy Motors, its trucks have collectively covered more than 122 million “green kilometres” on Indian roads and helped avoid more than 33,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The company said the reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption of nearly 1.3 million trees.
Blue Energy Motors operates a portfolio of LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks as it seeks to expand the use of lower-emission technology in commercial transportation.
The Gateway Distriparks deployment also reflects a wider shift across Indian supply chains, where companies are examining ways to cut transport emissions while improving fleet efficiency. Regulatory support, corporate sustainability targets and advances in commercial EV technology are gradually making heavy-duty electrification a more serious proposition for fleet operators.
Electric trucks still face the practical test that matters most in logistics: whether they can deliver goods reliably, repeatedly and economically. Deployments in active commercial fleets such as Gateway Distriparks’ will therefore be closely watched as India works out how quickly its vast freight network can move towards cleaner transportation.
