Gurugram: Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. has entered the India Book of Records after a convoy of 60 all-new Nissan Tekton SUVs completed a five-day Himalayan expedition covering more than 700 km, setting the official record for the “largest convoy of a single-model four-wheeler to reach Leh.”
The drive began in Chandigarh, at an elevation of 1,053 feet, and travelled through Manali and Zangla via Shinku La before reaching Leh at 11,480 feet. Along the way, the convoy climbed to Shinku La Pass at 16,703 feet, putting the new premium SUV through a mix of highways, mountain roads, changing weather and high-altitude terrain.
The expedition was organised as part of Nissan’s celebration of 75 years of its SUV heritage and was intended to demonstrate the Tekton’s durability and capability under demanding real-world driving conditions.
The 60 vehicles were driven by media personnel and industry experts throughout the route, giving the exercise a considerably sterner test than the usual showroom walkaround.

Tekton Draws Inspiration From Nissan Patrol
According to Nissan, the Tekton takes design inspiration from the brand’s Patrol SUV and combines Japanese craftsmanship with a range of safety and connected-car technologies.
The SUV features Google built-in, providing access to more than 200 apps through Google Play, while its powertrain range consists entirely of turbocharged engines.
The record attempt also gives Nissan an opportunity to demonstrate the vehicle beyond controlled testing environments. High-altitude routes such as those encountered during the expedition bring rapid changes in elevation, road surfaces and weather — conditions that can make even an ordinary drive considerably less ordinary.
Made in Chennai for India and Export Markets
The all-new Nissan Tekton is manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant under Nissan’s “One Car, One World” philosophy.
Nissan says the SUV has been engineered in India for Indian customers as well as for exports to international markets including the Middle East and Africa.
The company is offering the Tekton at introductory ex-showroom prices starting at INR 10.49 lakh for the Turbo T160 range and INR 14.99 lakh for the Turbo T280 range.
Bookings are open through Nissan’s retail network and digital platforms across India, while customer deliveries commenced on July 20, 2026.
The Himalayan convoy gives Nissan a high-profile milestone as it expands the Tekton’s presence in India. Beyond the record itself, the exercise underlines the importance automakers are placing on demonstrating SUVs in demanding real-world conditions — particularly in a market where capability, technology and everyday usability increasingly have to share the same set of wheels.
