Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited’s office and employee-support facilities at its Pune manufacturing plant have received the 2026 Red Dot Brand & Communication Design Award in the Interior Architecture category, the company announced on Friday.
According to Hyundai Motor India Limited, or HMIL, the recognition makes the Pune facility the first automotive manufacturing plant globally to receive a Red Dot Award for the design of its employee offices and support infrastructure.
The award recognises the workplace’s integration of employee well-being, collaboration, sustainability and operational efficiency with industrial design. Rather than treating offices as an afterthought beside the assembly line, the facility was planned as an important part of the manufacturing ecosystem.
HMIL said the building was designed after studying the requirements of its workforce, including its relatively young employee base, growing gender diversity, multicultural backgrounds and collaborative working patterns.
The facility combines standardised infrastructure with areas intended to support individual work, team discussions and employee engagement.

Focused Work Areas and Collaboration Zones
The award-winning building includes a combination of focused workspaces and open collaboration zones, allowing employees to move between individual tasks and team-based problem-solving.
Flexible meeting areas have also been equipped with writing surfaces intended to help employees communicate across language differences — a practical design detail in a workplace where clarity can be considerably more useful than another decorative wall.
The facility includes personal lockers and shared document-storage areas suited to the paperwork requirements of manufacturing operations.
Employee-support amenities include a mother care room and separate meditation rooms for men and women. HMIL said these facilities were designed to address locally relevant workforce needs while supporting inclusivity and employee well-being.
Biophilic Architecture and Sustainable Materials
The office building follows the principles of biophilic architecture, which seeks to strengthen the connection between occupants and the natural environment.
Its design incorporates interior landscaping and a courtyard-focused layout intended to bring natural elements into the workplace. Upcycled terrazzo flooring has also been used as part of the building’s sustainability approach.
The design aims to create a healthier and more environmentally responsible workplace while maintaining the functional requirements of a large automotive manufacturing operation.
The Red Dot recognition places workplace design alongside engineering and production efficiency as an increasingly important part of modern manufacturing. For Hyundai Motor India, the award also signals that the factories of the future may be judged not only by what rolls off their production lines, but by the environments created for the people working behind them.
