Hyundai Throws Open the Garage Doors for Startups with Innovation Challenge 2026

Hyundai Motor India invites startups to co-create future mobility solutions across EVs, AI, ADAS, connectivity and next-generation vehicle technology

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited has launched the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, inviting startups to join a six-month innovation programme aimed at developing next-generation mobility and technology solutions. The initiative seeks to bring together high-potential startups working across areas such as electrification, new mobility, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems, AI-driven tools and future vehicle technologies.

The programme is being supported by ZER01NE, Hyundai Motor Group’s global open innovation platform, and is designed as a bridge between India’s fast-growing startup ecosystem and Hyundai’s mobility expertise. In simpler terms, Hyundai is not just looking for ideas that look good on pitch decks; it wants ideas that can actually survive traffic, heat, potholes, software updates and possibly an impatient Indian driver.

Through the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, selected startups will get the opportunity to work closely with HMIL teams and co-develop future mobility solutions. The company said the initiative will provide startups with access to Hyundai’s ecosystem, expert mentorship, Proof-of-Concept grants, market exposure and potential commercialisation opportunities.

Commenting on the launch, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “At HMIL, we strongly believe that the future of mobility will be shaped by collaboration, innovation and bold thinking. The Hyundai Innovation Challenge, curated in partnership with Hyundai Motor Group’s ZER01NE team, is designed to bring together some of the brightest minds and most promising startups to co-create solutions that redefine mobility.”

He added that India’s dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem and its growing influence on global innovation make it an ideal ground for such an initiative. “At HMIL, we see startups as partners and co-creators of a smarter, more sustainable future. We are excited about the possibilities we can unlock together,” Garg said.

Startups can apply for the programme until the end of June 2026 through the website managed by LINK Innovation, a global startup consulting and accelerator platform. The platform has outlined 15 focus areas for this year’s challenge, though Hyundai said startups are also welcome to submit ideas beyond the listed categories, provided they have the potential to deliver meaningful impact.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis during the submission window. The initial screening will evaluate startups across multiple parameters, after which shortlisted participants will undergo a more detailed assessment of their technology and product readiness. Finalists will then pitch their ideas to HMIL’s top management.

Selected startups will receive co-development opportunities with Hyundai, including PoC grants, expert guidance from HMIL specialists and potential access to the company’s customer ecosystem. The programme may also open doors for future investments and long-term strategic partnerships.

With the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, HMIL is clearly betting that the next big mobility idea may not emerge only from a large corporate boardroom, but perhaps from a startup office where the coffee machine is overworked, the whiteboard is full, and someone is still confidently saying, “Give us six months.”
