New Delhi:
India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has kicked off the new financial year in full throttle, registering its highest-ever monthly sales in April 2026. The company sold a total of 239,646 units, proving once again that when it comes to car buying in India, Maruti is less of a brand and more of a default setting.
Domestic performance was particularly strong, with 191,122 units sold in India, marking an all-time high. Add to that 8,470 units supplied to other OEMs and 40,054 units exported, and you have a sales chart that looks like it skipped leg day and went straight to cardio.
Small Cars, Big Numbers
Maruti’s entry-level and compact portfolio continued to form the backbone of its success. Models like Alto and S-Presso clocked 16,066 units, while the broader compact and mid-size lineup—including Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and WagonR—contributed a hefty 80,659 units.
Clearly, the formula remains simple: give India a practical, fuel-efficient car, and it will respond with enthusiasm (and long waiting periods).
SUVs Keep the Momentum Rolling
The utility vehicle segment is no longer just a supporting actor—it’s now a full-blown superstar. With models like Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, and Jimny, Maruti recorded 77,892 units in this category alone.
If there was ever any doubt, India’s love affair with SUVs is now official—and Maruti is making sure it’s not left swiping right.
Vans and Workhorses Stay Steady
The ever-reliable Eeco van posted 13,087 units, continuing its silent but steady contribution. Meanwhile, the Super Carry LCV added 3,418 units, proving that while SUVs grab headlines, the real economy still runs on practical wheels.
Exports Add Global Shine
Maruti’s export business also saw a healthy boost, reaching 40,054 units, compared to 27,911 units in April last year. That’s a strong signal that India-made cars are finding more garages—and probably tighter parking spots—across global markets.
The Big Picture
- Total Domestic Sales (PV + LCV): 191,122 units
- Total Domestic Sales (including OEM): 199,592 units
- Total Exports: 40,054 units
- Grand Total: 239,646 units
Compared to April 2025’s 179,791 units, this marks a significant jump, underlining Maruti Suzuki’s continued dominance in the Indian automotive landscape.
April 2026 wasn’t just a good month for Maruti Suzuki—it was a record-breaking one. With strong demand across segments, rising exports, and SUVs joining the party in full force, the company seems well-positioned for another high-speed financial year.
And if this momentum continues, Maruti might soon need a bigger scoreboard—because these numbers are clearly running out of space.
