MG Select Unveils Gaurav Gupta-Designed M9 and Cyberster Couture Editions

Mumbai: MG Select, the luxury retail channel of JSW MG Motor India, has unveiled limited Couture Editions of the MG M9 and Cyberster in collaboration with designer Gaurav Gupta, with production restricted to 50 units of each model.

The vehicles were presented during the unveiling of Gupta’s latest couture collection, Light Song, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Pre-reservations are now open exclusively through MG Select and will close when prices are announced on August 3, 2026.

MG Select described the two models as India’s first couture-edition luxury vehicles. The collaboration translates elements of Gupta’s fashion design language into exterior treatments and hand-finished detailing on the electric roadster and luxury limousine.

Both vehicles draw inspiration from Gupta’s signature Serpent Infinity motif, which is associated with continuity, transformation and quiet power. The motif has been interpreted through embroidery-inspired artistry, tonal layering and detailing intended to create a sense of movement as light passes across the vehicles’ surfaces.

The Cyberster Couture Edition also appeared on the runway during the presentation, giving the phrase “runway model” a rather literal automotive meaning.

The collaboration builds on a partnership that began earlier in 2026 at the opening of Gupta’s menswear flagship store in New Delhi. An early interpretation of the Cyberster was displayed at the event, providing the first indication that the designer and MG Select were exploring a broader partnership.

For the latest project, the design treatment has been extended to both the Cyberster and the M9. According to the companies, the vehicles use techniques and visual ideas similar to those featured in Gupta’s couture work, including sculptural forms, tonal depth and hand-finished elements.

Speaking on the occasion, Milind Shah, Head – MG Select, JSW MG Motor India said, “We believe the future of luxury lies in creating experiences that people connect with emotionally. The MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Editions are a celebration of that belief. They bring together the artistry of couture to create vehicles that are as expressive as they are innovative. They reflect our vision of building automobiles as enduring symbols of individuality, craftsmanship and modern luxury.”

Gaurav Gupta said the project was an attempt to translate the philosophy of couture into luxury mobility.

“Every design begins with a vision of how people experience movement. With the MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Edition, we translated the craftsmanship and sculptural philosophy of couture into the world of luxury mobility. It represents a new benchmark where design, technology and artistry coexist, redefining what a premium automotive experience can be,” Gupta said.

The Light Song collection was developed over nine months by more than 200 artisans, involving around 6,000 hours of hand craftsmanship. It featured more than 70 looks across cocktail dressing, occasion wear, bridal couture and menswear.

MG Select served as the Official Automobile Partner for the showcase.

The limited production run gives the project a collector-focused positioning, although MG Select has not yet disclosed prices, delivery timelines or whether the Couture Editions will receive any mechanical or equipment changes beyond their bespoke design treatments.

By applying couture principles to production automobiles, the collaboration reflects a wider shift in the luxury market, where exclusivity is increasingly defined not only by performance or price, but also by personalisation, craftsmanship and cultural identity. For MG Select, the two editions offer a way to distinguish its flagship models in a crowded premium market — with considerably more embroidery-inspired detailing than the average options catalogue.
