One Girl, Many Ripples: Project Nanhi Kali’s New Film ‘Power of One’ Redefines Impact Beyond Numbers

Mumbai: In a world obsessed with metrics, charts and “how many?”, Project Nanhi Kali has decided to ask a quieter, yet far more powerful question—“what changed?” With the launch of its new campaign film ‘Power of One’, the organisation shifts the spotlight from statistics to stories, reminding us that sometimes, the biggest impact doesn’t fit neatly into an Excel sheet.

The film explores how true social transformation often unfolds in subtle, deeply personal ways. It could be a girl discovering her voice, choosing to say “no” in a patriarchal setting, or simply believing—perhaps for the first time—that her dreams are valid. These are not headline numbers, but they are life-altering milestones.

At a time when development narratives are often dominated by scale and data, ‘Power of One’ gently nudges viewers to rethink how impact is measured. It captures everyday moments that rarely make reports but leave lasting imprints—moments where confidence replaces hesitation, and aspiration quietly takes root.

Sheetal Mehta, Trustee and Executive Director at the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust, summed it up with clarity: while numbers may tell one side of the story, the real impact lies in how a girl sees herself and the possibilities she begins to imagine. And when that shift happens, it doesn’t stop with her—it ripples through families and communities, often creating change far beyond what can be quantified.

The creative minds at Ogilvy India, who conceptualised the campaign, took a ground-level approach—visiting centres, meeting beneficiaries, and witnessing firsthand the evolution of a program that has been running for over three decades. According to Chief Creative Officers Kainaz Karmakar and Harshad Rajadhyaksha, the insight was simple yet profound: while the numbers are impressive, the real story lies in each individual girl who finds her voice.

And that story is not small. Over the years, Project Nanhi Kali has supported nearly a million girls across India. But the film insists—almost stubbornly—that each one of those girls is not just part of a statistic, but a standalone narrative of courage, growth, and transformation.

Founded by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust and jointly managed by the Naandi Foundation, the initiative has evolved alongside India’s education landscape. Today, it goes beyond classroom learning, integrating life skills, digital literacy, financial awareness, and even sports leadership—aligning closely with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020.

In the end, ‘Power of One’ leaves you with a simple but lingering thought: if even one girl’s life can change, perhaps that’s not a small number after all—it’s just a powerful beginning.
