Silchar/Guwahati: Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the force behind BharatBenz trucks and buses, has strengthened its presence in India’s Northeast by inaugurating a new state-of-the-art service workshop in Silchar. Partnering with PPS Trucking, the company is aiming to bring service support closer to one of the country’s most demanding logistics corridors—where trucks often work harder than their drivers’ morning alarm clocks.
Strategically positioned along the Silchar Bypass at Ram Nagar near ISBT on NH 37, the sprawling 30,000 sq. ft. facility is designed to handle the growing movement of commercial vehicles across the region. Equipped with eight fully functional service bays, the workshop can service up to 3,000 vehicles annually. It comes armed with advanced diagnostic tools, modern equipment, and a steady supply of genuine spare parts—essentially ensuring that breakdowns don’t turn into long-distance relationships between trucks and workshops.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the new service centre also brings round-the-clock roadside assistance into the mix, backed by mobile service vans ready to respond across the region. For fleet operators navigating the challenging terrain connecting Assam to Mizoram and Manipur, this could mean less downtime and more time doing what trucks do best—moving goods, not excuses.
The timing of this expansion aligns with a surge in commercial activity across the Barak Valley. Infrastructure upgrades, including projects under the Asom Mala 3.0 initiative, and industrial demand from limestone-rich regions like Dima Hasao are fueling increased freight movement. In simpler terms, more roads and more cement mean more trucks—and more need for reliable service support.
Rajiv Chaturvedi, President & Chief Business Officer at DICV, highlighted the importance of robust after-sales infrastructure in such challenging terrains, noting that fleet operators in the Northeast require service capabilities that can match both distance and difficulty. Meanwhile, Rajiv Sanghvi, Managing Director of PPS Trucking, emphasized that the Silchar facility strengthens connectivity across key Northeastern states while improving turnaround times and overall fleet profitability.
The workshop is not just about machines—it also pays attention to the people behind the wheel. With dedicated driver rest areas and customer-friendly amenities, the facility acknowledges that a well-rested driver is just as critical as a well-maintained truck. A team of 32 trained technicians will operate the centre, ensuring that every vehicle gets expert attention.
With comprehensive maintenance solutions, including preventive care, scheduled servicing, and express service options, the Silchar workshop reinforces BharatBenz’s long-term strategy of enhancing uptime and reducing operational disruptions. Because in the world of logistics, every hour saved is money earned—and every breakdown avoided is one less story of “truck stuck, delivery delayed.”
In a region where terrain tests both machines and men, this new service hub could well become the unsung hero keeping Northeast India’s supply lines moving smoothly.
