MG Wants Your Big Idea: JSW MG Motor India & DPIIT Kickstart Season 6 of MG Developer Program

Gurugram: If you’ve ever looked at traffic and thought, “I can fix this,” JSW MG Motor India might just be ready to hand you the mic—and maybe even a grant. In collaboration with Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the automaker has officially launched Season 6.0 of its MG Developer Program & Grant (MGDP), inviting India’s brightest start-up minds to reimagine the future of mobility.

This year’s theme, ‘Innovation in Automotive,’ isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a full-throttle call for ideas that could shape how India moves tomorrow. From AI-powered cars and V2X intelligence to EV charging ecosystems and sustainable manufacturing, MGDP 6.0 is casting a wide net. Think of it as Shark Tank, but with fewer dramatic pauses and more actual engineering.

Applications are now open and will close on April 30, 2026, giving innovators just enough time to turn their late-night ideas into pitch-ready solutions. The much-anticipated Demo Day is scheduled for June 1, 2026, where shortlisted teams will showcase their concepts to an esteemed jury panel comprising industry leaders, academicians, and corporate experts.

Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, emphasized that innovation continues to sit firmly in the driver’s seat of the company’s vision. He noted that the program aims to empower start-ups working across new energy, autonomous, and connected mobility technologies—essentially everything that makes your future car smarter than your current phone.

Echoing the sentiment, Sanjiv Singh, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration and nurturing India’s entrepreneurial talent. The partnership reflects a shared goal: turning bold ideas into practical solutions that actually work beyond PowerPoint presentations.

Participants selected for MGDP 6.0 won’t just get applause—they’ll receive mentorship from MG and its ecosystem partners, access to development support, real-world testing opportunities, and potential grant assistance. In short, it’s where ideas go from “this could work” to “this is working.”

Since its inception in 2019, MGDP has grown into one of the largest mentoring platforms in the automotive space. The program has received over 1,550 entries across five seasons, with more than 290 teams shortlisted and guided by over 100 experts. So far, 51 start-ups have made the cut and are already working on pilot projects—proving that MGDP is less about theory and more about turning innovation into ignition.

For India’s start-up ecosystem, MGDP 6.0 arrives as another strong push toward future-ready mobility solutions. And for aspiring innovators, it’s a reminder that sometimes, the road to success quite literally begins with an idea—and a deadline.

Because let’s face it, the next big automotive breakthrough might just be sitting in someone’s garage… or more realistically, on a laptop with 37 tabs open.
