Tata Motors Bags Orders for 5,000+ Buses from STUs Across India, Ready to Drive the Nation’s Daily Commute

If India’s roads had a backstage crew, buses would be the quiet performers ensuring millions reach offices, colleges, markets and wedding functions on time. Now, that fleet is about to get a major upgrade. Tata Motors has secured pan-India orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs), reinforcing its position as one of the country’s most trusted mass-mobility partners.

The orders, awarded through the Government’s competitive e-bidding procurement system, come from several state transport bodies including MSRTC (Maharashtra), GSRTC (Gujarat), NWKRTC (Karnataka), TGSRTC (Telangana), BSRTC (Bihar), RSRTC (Rajasthan), KSRTC (Kerala), Haryana Roadways and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU). Deliveries will take place in phases as per agreements with the respective transport authorities.

For Tata Motors, which has long been associated with India’s public transport ecosystem, the order win marks another milestone in its mission to keep the country moving—literally. From crowded city streets to long inter-state highways, Tata buses have played a key role in connecting people, markets and opportunities across the nation.

Commenting on the development, Anand S, Vice President and Head – Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business, Tata Motors Ltd., said:
“This recognition by multiple State Transport Undertakings reflects the deep trust placed in Tata Motors’ mobility solutions. Our buses are engineered to deliver comfort, safety and reliability across diverse terrains and operating conditions. With strong product engineering and a lifecycle support ecosystem focused on customer uptime, we continue to enable STUs to serve millions of passengers every day.”

The large order book includes several models from Tata Motors’ passenger mobility portfolio such as Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and bus chassis like the LPO 1618, LPO 1622 and LPO 1822. These vehicles are designed for a variety of roles—from urban city routes and intra-city commuting to long-distance intercity travel.

While passengers may simply see another bus arriving at the stop, transport departments are looking at the bigger picture—better efficiency, improved reliability and enhanced passenger comfort. In other words, fewer breakdown headaches for operators and slightly less “bus kab aayegi?” frustration for commuters.

Supporting these deployments is Tata Motors’ Sampoorna Seva 2.0 lifecycle management program. The initiative provides maintenance support, faster turnaround times, genuine spare parts availability and roadside assistance—ensuring buses spend more time on the road and less time in workshops.

Backing it all is a vast ecosystem of over 4,500 sales and service touchpoints across India, enabling the company to support fleet operators and transport undertakings nationwide.

With these new orders, Tata Motors is not just delivering buses—it is helping power the next phase of India’s mass mobility transformation, where reliable public transport remains the backbone of everyday life.

And if everything goes as planned, millions of passengers across India might soon notice something refreshing during their daily commute: a bus that arrives on time—and maybe even with a seat available.
