Mumbai: If rural India had a horsepower meter this February, it would be glowing bright red — Mahindra red, to be precise. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Business (FEB) has reported a robust 35% year-on-year growth in domestic tractor sales, retailing 32,153 units in February 2026 compared to 23,880 units in February 2025.
Including exports, the company’s total tractor sales (Domestic + Exports) stood at 34,133 units, up from 25,527 units during the same period last year. Exports alone contributed 1,980 units, marking a healthy 20% growth.
Rural Momentum in Full Throttle
Commenting on the performance, Veejay Nakra, President – Farm Equipment Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said the strong numbers were powered by multiple tailwinds. Robust rabi sowing, healthy reservoir levels, and a favourable kharif harvest have significantly strengthened rural cash flows. Add to that the festive momentum of Navratri, and the tractor market appears to have found its rhythm.
In simple words: when crops smile, tractors sell.
The Bigger Picture
The 35% jump in domestic sales signals more than just strong monthly dispatches — it reflects growing rural confidence and sustained agricultural activity. With water reservoirs at healthy levels and farm incomes stabilising, mechanisation demand is seeing renewed traction.
Mahindra’s leadership in the tractor segment has historically been tied to the pulse of the Indian farm economy. This February’s performance reinforces that connection, as farmers continue to invest in productivity-enhancing machinery.
Exports Add Extra Torque
On the global front, exports grew 20% year-on-year, demonstrating steady international demand for Mahindra’s farm equipment portfolio. While domestic markets remain the primary growth engine, overseas markets are adding consistent incremental volumes.
Outlook: Festive Season to Fuel Demand
With Navratri festivities underway and rural liquidity conditions remaining favourable, industry observers expect demand momentum to continue in the near term. If reservoir levels and crop patterns stay supportive, tractor sales may well keep ploughing ahead at full throttle.
For Mahindra, February 2026 has clearly been less about “waiting for the rains” and more about “riding the harvest wave.”
And if this trend continues, the countryside won’t just be growing crops — it’ll be growing numbers too.
