JSW Motors Limited has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Indian Institute of Skills to build a future-ready workforce for its upcoming New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The move comes well ahead of the commissioning of JSW Motors’ greenfield plant, underscoring a simple but powerful belief: in the EV era, batteries may power cars — but skills power factories.
A Talent Pipeline Before the Production Line
Announced in Mumbai on 26th February 2026, the collaboration establishes a structured, industry-aligned technical talent pipeline tailored specifically for JSW Motors’ production requirements.
The partnership will roll out a JSW-specific curriculum co-developed with Tata IIS, covering:
- EV systems engineering
- Battery technology and management
- Automation and robotics
- Welding and CNC operations
- Advanced manufacturing processes
Importantly, JSW Motors retains hiring control and curriculum validation rights, ensuring the programme evolves in sync with plant ramp-up timelines and production demands. In other words, this isn’t generic skilling — it’s factory-floor-ready capability development.
“Skilling Is a Business Imperative”
Rupam Singh, Chief Human Resources Officer, JSW Motors Limited, emphasised the strategic intent behind the move:
“At JSW Motors, skilling is not an HR function, it is a business imperative. As we build our manufacturing operations, we need people who are ready from Day One. The Tata IIS partnership gives us structured capability, relevant curriculum, and execution rigour aligned to our timelines. This is a deliberate bridge as we work towards building our own world-class training academy.”
In an industry where commissioning delays can cost crores per day, “Day One readiness” isn’t just a slogan — it’s a competitive advantage.
Why Tata IIS?
Tata IIS was selected after a competitive evaluation of leading skilling institutions across India. The institute stood out for:
- Industry-grade training infrastructure
- Strong OEM engagement track record
- Application-based training methodology
- Alignment with modern EV manufacturing demands
The collaboration also builds on JSW Foundation’s broader Group-level relationship with Tata IIS, strengthening continuity and institutional alignment.
Venguswamy Ramaswamy, CEO Designate, Tata Indian Institute of Skills, stated:
“Our mission is to solve the nation’s skill challenges by creating a next-generation workforce that is not just job-ready, but future-ready. This partnership with JSW Motors is a significant step toward that goal. By designing bespoke programs in Advanced Manufacturing, we are equipping India’s youth with the high-precision skills required to drive the next generation of automotive excellence.”
Beyond the Factory Gates
JSW Motors’ skilling roadmap goes far beyond the assembly line. The long-term vision includes:
- Supplier and vendor capability development
- Dealer network readiness
- Customer ecosystem education for EV technologies
As the company scales operations, it plans to establish a dedicated in-house training academy anchored to advanced manufacturing and future mobility technologies — positioning itself not just as an EV manufacturer, but as a capability leader in India’s energy transition journey.
A Strategic Move in India’s EV Race
With India accelerating toward electric mobility targets and global OEMs investing heavily in domestic manufacturing, talent could well become the biggest differentiator.
JSW Motors’ early investment in structured skilling signals a clear message: before you build the car of the future, you build the people who will build the car.
And in the EV age, that might just be the smartest charge to lead with.
