Global CV OEM Taps Aptiv’s Gen 6 ADAS to Tame India’s Toughest Roads Ahead of 2027 Safety Norms

Schaffhausen / Bengaluru:
When it comes to Indian roads, even seasoned drivers know that lane discipline is optional, cows have right of way, and three-wheelers appear from places science can’t explain. Acknowledging this reality, a leading global commercial vehicle OEM has chosen Aptiv PLC’s Gen 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) platform to power its future trucks and buses in India.

This marks Aptiv’s first ADAS collaboration with an Indian commercial vehicle OEM, arriving just in time for upcoming 2027 safety regulations that will mandate features such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), lane departure warnings, blind-spot detection, and pedestrian and obstacle alerts when vehicles start from a standstill. In short: fewer surprises on the road—except the occasional goat, which the system is also trained to spot.

Built for India, Not Just Imported Into It

Unlike passenger cars, commercial vehicles face tougher challenges—bigger blind spots, longer operating hours, harsher vibrations, and road conditions that can change faster than traffic signals. Aptiv’s Gen 6 ADAS is designed as a scalable, turn-key solution, enabling OEMs to meet regulatory requirements without blowing up costs or complexity.

At its core is a uni-voltage architecture that will scale across 14 models and more than 30 variants, covering trucks and buses with different body types and powertrains. The platform integrates Aptiv’s newly launched Gen 8 radar and Gen 7 smart camera, featuring AI-based vision technology from STRADVISION—fine-tuned specifically for Indian conditions.

Yes, that means it can identify three-wheelers, large animals, pedestrians, cyclists, and road workers—essentially everyone you’re likely to meet between a red light and the next pothole.

Proven Tech, Smarter Packaging

The Gen 6 ADAS leverages Aptiv’s modular ADAS software, already in production on over 40 million vehicles globally, but optimized here for commercial vehicle duty cycles. By combining sensors and software into a streamlined configuration, the system reduces complexity while delivering industry-leading performance.

Future upgrades won’t require a workshop visit either. Over-the-air updates—enabled by Aptiv’s LINC™ Software Platform and Wind River’s VxWorks RTOS—will allow features to improve over time. Think of it as your truck getting smarter with age, unlike most drivers.

Aptiv Doubles Down on India

The partnership underlines Aptiv’s long-term commitment to India’s rapidly expanding mobility ecosystem. The company has steadily invested in local capabilities, including a new technical center in Chennai in 2025 and an expanded advanced manufacturing facility in 2024. Today, Aptiv India employs 2,500 engineers and 13,000 employees across 7 manufacturing sites, 4 technical centers, and 1 tooling center nationwide.

“We are ready to help OEMs in India meet demanding real-world conditions with advanced, cost-effective safety solutions tailored to local needs,” said Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President, Intelligent Systems, Aptiv. By adapting globally proven technologies to Indian commercial vehicles, Aptiv aims to accelerate safer mobility in one of the world’s fastest-growing CV markets.

Echoing the sentiment, Arun Devaraj, Vice President and Managing Director, Intelligent Systems, Aptiv Asia Pacific (Non-China), noted that India’s mobility ecosystem is at a pivotal moment. With regulations tightening and expectations rising, partnerships like this will play a crucial role in ensuring timely compliance, optimized performance, and a more resilient transport landscape.

With Gen 6 ADAS, Aptiv isn’t just adding sensors to trucks and buses—it’s teaching them how to survive, and thrive, on Indian roads. And if technology can handle that, rush-hour traffic might finally meet its match.
