Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the charitable arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has decided that Maharashtra deserves more than just cars—it deserves forests, road safety classrooms, and perhaps even fewer honking horns at traffic junctions. To that end, HMIF has committed a whopping ₹56 crore in CSR initiatives across the state.
The initiatives, launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, include everything from planting one million trees to setting up Traffic Engineering and Organizational Development Centres, to programs that make paperwork less terrifying for rural citizens. Yes, Hyundai is now fixing both potholes in your commute and potholes in your documentation.
The Ioniq Forest: Because One Tree Wasn’t Enough
At Dange Chowk in Pune, HMIF is turning 90.5 acres into a Miyawaki jungle of one million trees with ₹32 crore. Soon, motorists may roll down their windows and inhale more oxygen than carbon monoxide—a revolutionary driving experience in itself.
Road Safety 2.0: My Road, My Friend
Nagpur and Pune will host new Traffic Engineering Centres under a ₹4 crore plan supporting the Nagpur Police’s ‘My Road, My Friend’ campaign. Expect fewer arguments at intersections and maybe, just maybe, the end of “tu jaa pehle” stand-offs.
Adhikaar Connect: Helping Villagers Beat Bureaucracy
Through Adhikaar Connect, HMIF will also provide handholding in Nashik and Talegaon for documentation, digital literacy, and financial access. In short, Hyundai wants rural citizens to spend less time at government counters and more time planting trees—or buying Hyundais.
Extra Credit: Beyond Cars, Beyond Karma
Ongoing national programmes like Sparsh Sanjeevani Telemedicine Clinics, Hope for Cancer, Sports Lab, Art for Hope, and Drive4Progress will be expanded in Maharashtra too. That means Hyundai is supporting everything from grassroots cricketers to grassroots forests, proving once again that “Progress for Humanity” isn’t just a slogan, but a ₹56 crore action plan.
Commenting on the initiatives, Unsoo Kim, MD of HMIL, said:
“Maharashtra holds a very special significance for us. We believe in creating shared value by going beyond business and investing in initiatives that directly touch people’s lives.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that the state will nurture Hyundai’s projects just as carefully as Mumbaikars nurture their vada pav recipes.
