Cuddalore — When Hyundai isn’t busy designing cars with sleek curves and futuristic tech, it seems the company is just as happy helping stitch a better future — quite literally. The Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has distributed 1,000 domestic tailoring machines to women across 109 villages in Tittagudi Taluk, Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu.
The initiative, more than just a CSR activity, is a fabric of empowerment — turning foot pedals into financial independence and sewing tables into startup desks.
A Ceremony with a Cause
The machines were formally handed over by C.V. Ganesan, Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, Government of Tamil Nadu, with dignitaries from Hyundai including Gopalakrishnan C S, Trustee – HMIF, Jeongick Lee, Executive Director – Corporate Affairs, and Beom Ryeong Song, Vertical Advisor, Corporate Communication and Social.
The Minister praised Hyundai’s efforts, calling it “a commendable example of corporate social responsibility in action,” noting that each machine is more than a tool — it’s a ticket to socio-economic upliftment for marginalized women.
Hyundai’s Thread of Thought
Adding a touch of global philosophy with local flavour, Gopalakrishnan C S said:
“At Hyundai, we believe progress is meaningful only when it is inclusive. By providing tailoring machines to women from vulnerable backgrounds, we’re not just offering tools for extra income — we’re enabling dignity, confidence, and long-term stability. After all, behind every strong family and thriving community, there’s usually a woman who knows how to stitch both fabric and future together.”
Not Just One-Off, but Phase Three
This sewing-machine drive is actually the third phase of HMIF’s regional development programme in Cuddalore. Previous phases saw Hyundai donating two Advanced Life Support ambulances in 2023 and essential healthcare equipment in 2024. Clearly, the company’s CSR strategy isn’t just about driving change, but parking it right at the village square.
A Tailored Future
With this initiative, Hyundai has quite literally put power in the hands of women — turning homes into micro-enterprises and skills into sustainable livelihoods. Who knew that after launching sedans, SUVs, and EVs, the next big “launch” from Hyundai would be… a sewing machine?
At this rate, the only thing Hyundai hasn’t stitched yet is its own clothing line. But if these women entrepreneurs have their way, that might just be the next chapter in “Progress for Humanity.”
