Honda’s August Numbers: Festivities Boost Spirits, GST Clouds Keep Dispatches in Check

New Delhi – Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), one of India’s leading manufacturers of premium cars, reported total sales of 6,774 units in August 2025. This comprised 3,850 units sold domestically and 2,924 units exported, reflecting both the cheer of Onam festivities and the cautious footwork of a company eyeing the looming GST storm.

Last August, Honda had registered 5,326 domestic units and 5,817 exports, making this year’s dispatch strategy look like a calculated pause rather than a brake failure.

Sharing his thoughts, Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said:
“The market demand owing to Onam festivities was quite strong and boosted our deliveries specially in Kerala and neighbouring states. In view of the ongoing speculations for potential GST rate changes, we followed a cautious approach towards factory despatches in August to align the inventory as per market situation. Early clarity on GST will be crucial to maintain buying momentum, and possible reduction will surely boost auto sales during festive buying season. We are fully prepared to meet the anticipated demand and look forward to serving our customers with enhanced value and satisfaction.”

The Road Ahead

  • Onam celebrations: Kerala dealerships reported vibrant footfalls, proving that festive spirit and Honda’s premium appeal still make for a strong partnership.
  • GST speculation: With potential cuts on the horizon, HCIL slowed dispatches – a strategy akin to waiting at a yellow light before a green, rather than risking a red.
  • Festive season optimism: Honda expects the upcoming buying wave to push demand, provided the GST clarity arrives in time to put customers in the fast lane.

Honda may not have floored the accelerator in August, but with festive demand revving and GST cuts possibly adding turbo boost, September and beyond could see the brand cruising in a higher gear.
