New Delhi – Delhi’s streets just got a quieter, greener, and much cooler upgrade. Switch Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group and a global name in electric buses, has officially flagged off the first batch of its Switch EiV12 – Low Floor Electric City Buses, from the capital’s mega 950-unit order under the CESL tender.
The ceremony was flagged off with the kind of pomp and circumstance Delhi loves – Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the charge, joined by Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh, MP Manoj Tiwari, MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, Transport Commissioner Ms. Niharika Rai, DTC MD Prince Dhawan, and senior leaders from Switch and the Hinduja Group. A gathering that could fill a bus (or fifty) stood witness as Delhi’s new era of clean mobility was set in motion.

A Bus With Brains (and Heart)
Built at Switch’s state-of-the-art facility, the EiV12 is not your grandfather’s rickety DTC bus. This 12-meter ultra-low-floor marvel can seat 39 passengers, glide effortlessly through Delhi’s chaotic traffic, and still have enough juice left at the end of the day to make smug car owners reconsider their choices.
Onboard, passengers get world-class features: wheelchair ramps for differently-abled riders, CCTV cameras to ensure safety, panic buttons for emergencies (and maybe for Delhi traffic in general), and GPS tracking to keep the conductor honest. Safety is further reinforced by Fire Detection and Suppression Systems, while the low-mounted LFP batteries keep stability tighter than Delhiites holding their place in a Metro queue.
Tech That’s Smarter Than Your Smartphone
Each EiV12 comes powered by Switch iON, the company’s proprietary telematics system that provides real-time vehicle health monitoring and fleet management. Translation: these buses can tell their drivers what’s wrong before even a mechanic guesses. And with rapid dual-gun charging, they’re designed to spend less time at the depot and more time ferrying Delhiites with zero emissions and zero excuses.
Delhi Leads the Charge
RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer, Switch Mobility, summed it up:
“These buses will enhance Delhi’s public transport ecosystem while ensuring cleaner air for millions. The EiV12 combines advanced global technology with Indian manufacturing pride – a true Make in India for the World moment.”
Delhi, already India’s front-runner in electric bus deployment, now cements its lead with this rollout. The new EiV12 fleet is expected to slash CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, and make daily commutes less noisy, less smoky, and maybe even a little more enjoyable.
The Punchline on Wheels
With these buses, Delhi is finally proving that “power cut” jokes are passé – because when the city moves electric, it doesn’t stop. In a place where traffic jams are more reliable than weather forecasts, the Switch EiV12 might just be the refreshing breeze the capital needs. After all, nothing says progress like a bus that saves the planet and still gets you to Connaught Place without a guilty conscience.
