EQS Marks the Spot: Mercedes-Benz Celebrates EV Growth with a Luxe Salute and a Tailored Touch in Chennai

Chennai – Mercedes-Benz India is throwing itself a well-deserved electric party with the launch of the EQS 580 4Matic ‘Celebration Edition’, a luxurious toast to its surging battery-powered success. Limited to just 50 units and priced at ₹1.30 crore (ex-showroom), this version of the EQS sedan is aimed squarely at those who prefer their champagne chilled and their rear seats massaging.

Alongside the car’s curtain-raising, Mercedes-Benz has also pulled the velvet rope on its swanky ‘Atelier Experience’ showroom in Adyar, Chennai—the latest in a string of boutique luxury facilities popping up faster than flash-chargers on an expressway. With four such inaugurations in just two weeks, including stops in Jammu, Delhi, and Mumbai, the German marque now boasts 11 new touchpoints in 2025—and it’s only June.

Luxury on Wheels, Now with Reclining Rear Thrones

If you thought EVs were all silent motors and serious range, Mercedes-Benz has thrown in a plush reminder that luxury still rules the back seat. The Celebration Edition gets Multicontour rear seats, Energizing massage functions, Nappa leather everywhere, and executive recliners that tilt up to 38 degrees—ideal for power naps after closing stock market deals or dodging Chennai traffic.

And because no high-society ride is complete without showing off a bit, the EQS also features MBUX Augmented Reality navigation, a system that overlays live directions on your screen. Basically, it’s like Google Maps… if it went to finishing school in Stuttgart.

From Stuttgart to Sundaram: Boutique is the New Bold

The new Atelier Experience showroom in Adyar is more “couture studio” than car dealership. Customers can sample the Manufaktur program, choose wall colours to match their mood, and customize every stitch of their Mercedes while sipping coffee that probably has a three-syllable name.

According to Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, “This dual celebration represents not just the evolution of electric mobility but also our dedication to delivering luxury retail with a very personal touch. Hyper-personalization is the new horsepower.”

Sharath Vijayaraghavan of Sundaram Motors echoed the sentiment, noting the shared 100-year legacy between the brands—just in case anyone needed a reminder that timeless partnerships still exist in the age of 0–100 in 3.9 seconds.

The Road Ahead: Plug, Play, and Personalize

With BEV sales up 73% YTD by May 2025, and demand for high-end electrics like the EQS Maybach SUV and G 580 soaring, Mercedes-Benz is steering the luxury BEV conversation in India. And with plans to open 19 more luxury touchpoints in the next 5 months, including in Patna, Kanpur, and Udaipur, the brand’s “Go to Customer” strategy ensures even mini metros get a mega dose of bespoke luxury.

So, whether you’re buying an EV to save the planet or to out-lux your neighbour’s petrol-powered palace, the EQS Celebration Edition makes one thing clear: electric can be elite—and your backseat deserves better.
